The 2nd Law review

Posted : 11 years, 7 months ago on 10 October 2012 11:36

Sit down and enjoy the show. When a disk Muse you can be sure that you never get bored. Loud singing, sometimes dancing, you are carried away or you are angry. But we can not remain indifferent, that's for sure.
I am not a band by half-measures: it knows. Extreme reactions, and it is their beauty. As is to be appreciated that any time, for better or worse, leave you speechless. "The 2nd law" is no exception, especially in the well, the disc is more varied and diverse that the band has produced.
There are the hallmarks of the group: the bombast, the epic music, the darkness in the lyrics, from the title (the second law of thermodynamics says that in a closed system entropy increases and the energy is lost: we are ergo for the decline), the cover (representation fluorescent energy pathways in neurons of the human brain).
And yes, even in music. Who got scared feeling "Survival" - theme song of the Olympics and perhaps the most grandiose piece ever recorded by the band - has to seek consolation in songs like "Madness" (with that solo that seems to come from "I want to break free" Queen), "Explorers", "Animals", almost a test of understatement to the canons of the band, songs that work well for exactly this reason
There is a pop-rock shamelessly 80s "Panic Station" ("We were able to put the slap-bass and get away with it", told us when we interviewed them, and already own the technique of playing the bass striking him with the thumb, which was popularized at the time by groups like Level 42 and - fortunately - fall into oblivion). There are two songs written and sung by Chris Wolstenholme, which is a respectable figure, especially considering that until a few years ago was lost in the fumes of alcohol. And there is the inevitable final suite, where the Muses put in a bit of everything ', from Skrillex to classical.
It 'a rollercoaster ride, this album: homogeneous in its homogeneity. Recognizable yet different, that you like them or not, Muse have the advantage of not sitting on their laurels, to aim high. Not always the target is in focus. But this time shooting in different directions, targets to each other seemingly distant center and if they are not full, at least come close to a lot.
