Take The Crown review

Posted : 11 years, 5 months ago on 5 November 2012 03:22

The approach to the disc is not the most promising. A cover really bad, and the attack of "Be a boy" based on tastierone and a sax that seems to come from a disk by Fausto Papetti (if you do not know who he is, look for it on Google ...). Robbie Williams really wants to recover so the crown of the king of pop? Good start ...
It 'a blowhard, dear old Robbie. Nearly 40 years of living dangerously, with ups and downs, outputs and returns, depression and euphoria. The return to Take That was a "vacation," he says, and certainly has been good: the tour was celebrated as a king, had the place of honor when he came, they came down the steps. She put a little 'to put his ego after the last flop, without loading it with too many responsibilities.
Today, Robbie is being euphoric - we saw it in person when we interviewed him and he feels the disc. A pop record, dichiaramente thought to send songs on the radio and in the charts. It's working, "Candy", a song more cheerfully caciarone of his career, written with Gary Barlow, gave him the first number 1 in the UK for almost 10 years.
Learn the art and put aside: the net figure is that Robbie has realized that this must be done. Pop a little epic 'sprinkled with rock. Mica trials "Rudebox", fun for him, much less to the public. In "Take the crown" there are still some traces: "Hey wow yeah yeah", divertissment successful. But the model is "Shit on the radio," which is always rock but definitely more popular.

Yes, because behind this record has been made by Jacknife Lee, one of the most respected producers in recent years, known for his guitar sound and compressed (Editors, the last REM) The value of production is to give a layered dress the songs that move in all that is in between the pop-new wave '80s "All That I Want" and ballads like "Losers". Jacknife unable to insert some guitar here and there, without running the whole thing for a hard rock too - not randomly inserting references to U2 in "Into the Silence" and "Different".
Although in the end this was a rock album, what matters is the personality of Robbie. That, musically, says he does not have one. Inhomogeneities in homogeneous, bipolar, a little 'schizophrenic in music. Just sing songs in deeply allowing him to make a scene in a video or on stage. "Take the crown" has it all: a pleasant drive as only knows how to be the pop of excellent workmanship. Does not have the piece chain, the "Angel" or "Let me entertain you", the "Rock DJ", so to speak. But everything else is there in abundance. We are not sure that these are the tools to take a crown of pop. But surely it is enough to spend an hour of great music and to promise a great show for the tour this summer.
