Description: John Coltrane released a series of albums on the Atlantic Records label between April 1959 and May 1961 which can be considered as one of the finest ever from a musician (including Giant Steps and My Favourite Things). The last of the Atlantic records, before he changed labels, was Ole Coltrane. It is an album that is not as the title suggests a bossa nova record, with Coltrane hollering "reba reba", but a quite excellent set of fairly straightforward bop. Straightforward that is, but never predictable, as it is also an album which finds Coltrane at his most accessible and McCoy Tyner at his most melodic. The stand-out ... (more)
