The album's composition and arrangement were handled by several music collaborators, such as Yoo Young-jin, Kangta, Ahn Ik-soo, and Sigurd Heimdal Rosnes, among others. The title track "No. 1" was released in conjunction with the album and received promotions on domestic music programs.
The album was a commercial success in South Korea, topping the monthly charts for two consecutive months in April and May 2002. It was the year's fourth best-selling album in the country with sales of over 540,000 copies.
