The term country-pop doesn't quite do justice to Yearwood's sixth album for MCA: The sound is a kind of modernized countrypolitan, a wide-open, layered pop distinguished by intelligently placed strings, piano, pedal steel, and the harmonies of Kim Richey and Harry Stinson. Fans of Yearwood's more traditional-sounding early recordings will be surprised by the lushness of the ballads and the even-tempoed rockers.
