Description: Although filmed in colour, Roman Polanski's masterpiece Chinatown (1974) is marinated in the dramatics of 1940's film noir. Composer Jerry Goldsmith was hired when another musician's score was rejected at the last minute, leaving him only ten days to write and record this short but undeniably classic score. Written for strings, four pianos, four harps, guiro, and solo trumpet, Chinatown employs advanced harmonic language and avant-garde performance techniques.
