(MU) In the islam a woman's director film, must be a reivindicative one; impossible not to. The girl of the title wins a so small battle (having a bycicle which is not forbidden for girls, but is not usual for them) while her mother suffers his man taking a second wiefe, which is allowed, too.....

I had seriously no idea what to expect from this movie and the main reason why I wanted to watch it was because it was included in the '1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die' list. Eventually, it was a really interesting feature. Indeed, it is always pretty neat to discover a new land and a new culture. Still, while watching the damned thing, I couldn't help thinking that, even though it was directed by a Saudi women, it still felt that it was giving a Western point of view on this strict Muslim culture. Basically, it gave a very bleak and sad view on the Saudi life, especially for the women and, even though it is probably true, it would have been nice to see something slightly more balanced. For example, towards the end, you get to see the main character reciting the Koran which seemed at first rather pointless and redundant but, eventually, it turned to be actually quite gorgeous and I think it would have worked better to show also such intriguing and positive aspects about this culture. I also had some trouble to really understand what was going on between the parents of the main character (apparently, the father was never home and was actually planning to wed a second wife but it was never clearly stated during the whole thing). Anyway, to conclude, even though it didn’t really blow me away, it was still a decent watch and it is definitely worth a look.

Great film. What was moving was Wadjda, she wanted to rebel against everyone but the society she lives in is surrounded by people who claim to live their faith. This film shows the norm. However, it's great to see the truths in the story and all the characters. All men and women have morals and values but they also want to rebel from faith that has been the means to live their daily lives in society. They all want to be a free spirit - but their faith is so strong they remind themselves they can't.

I thought this movie was beautiful, especially at the end. I actually cried. I love films like this. Thank you #TMN Canada :)
