The Human Centipede (2009) review

Posted : 2 years, 1 month ago on 28 March 2022 09:09

The idea was great, interesting, somewhat weird and stomach-churning. But the movie doesn't live up to it. There are some good things aside from this idea, I liked the stylistic nods to Hitchcock and Kubrick, the camera work and lighting are good and while he occasionally resorts to cartoon villainy Dieter Laser has many moments where he is genuinely chilling. Against all this, the story is very predictable and lacking in suspense. Despite the premise, it is actually fairly light on gore and gruesome scenes and this diminished the suspense levels for me. The direction has a lot of style but not a lot of substance, technically the film is assured but the characters are stock and the remainder of the other acting is uninspired. The Human Centipede is a very poorly written movie in my opinion with dully written and delivered dialogue and big, obvious and unforgivable medical errors. Overall, has a good idea but bad dialogue, a lack of suspense and a dull story stop it from being any more effective. 3/10 Bethany Cox

I had a very unpleasant experience with someone who claims to actually like this movie, it's god-awful and gross - there is NOTHING good about having your ass-stuck to someone else's mouth. It is not sexy, it is not creative, it is just gross. Roger Ebert was absolutely right.

I don't know why i watched this, i guess because too many people told me not to, which made me curious about it, so i'm not going to tell you not to watch it, because if you are like me, you will watch it anyway.

The movie is only 1 hour and 28 minutes but that's more than enough to make you feel bad about yourself, it's very disturbing and the reason for this is that there isn't a reason, meaning it's a disturbing just for the sake of being disturbing, there wasn't a story whatsoever, two girls from New York go to a tour through Europe, and while they were in Germany, they meet a guy who invite them to a party out of the city (cliche no.1), and while they were driving, their tire break (cliche no.2) in the middle of a dark road in the woods (cliche no.3) and they can't call the car company because they have no signal on the phone (cliche no.4) so they end up in a dutch doctor house.

The doctor is a famous surgeon who used to separate Siamese twins and now he dreams about make his own human centipede, so he kidnap people from the roads, drug them, and kill them if they don't match his description.

So, when the two girls arrived, he give them rape drug and operate on them, one of them try to escape so when he catch her, as a punishment, he puts her in the middle, because the middle of the centipede is the most painful position.

And that's pretty much it, and during the movie, there's long scenes of the girls just crying and crying and crying, it's like the director was intentionally trying to make you feel disturbed and disgust with yourself.

The worst thing about this movie was the end because when the two cops break-in his house, he kill them both, but get shot before he kill the second cop, the Japanese man in the front of the centipede kill himself, and the 2nd girl at the end of the centipede dies of suffering, so the movie ends with the girl in the middle just hanging there, and you have no idea whether she will get rescued or not, and that's horrible, because what's the point of the movie then? other than make you feel bad about yourself?

One thing i should mention is Dieter Laser (the doctor), he was so good, and delivered such a scary performance, it was like he was born to play this role, i seriously can't see him in any other movie than this, so this saves the movie a little bit from being a complete disaster.

Thank u Daniel Tosh. Now I don't have or need to see this movie.

If you're reading this, most likely you know all about "The Human Centipede" and have probably even had the discussion with your friends about which position is the best, and which is the worst.

If you haven't, please see trailer below. And please don't watch if you've eaten anything in the last few days.

Anyway, if you haven't seen it by now, there's a good chance you never will. You know, because you don't hate yourself and feel the need to punish your eyes with images that will scar your soul for the rest of your days. But you still want to know what happens, right?

Of course you do. And here's Daniel Tosh of Tosh.0 to do just that.

No plot and no gore at all. Not only is this one of the weirdest messed up films ever...it never resolves! It deserves to have someone tell what the whole film is, it's absolute garbage! You don't even know if the girl makes it out alive ugh this film infuriated me. The director should be banned for making movies ever again. I detest this film with a passion. It serves no merit, nothing positive, nothing cool in the horror sense, nothing to get from the film..nothing

The only reason I finished it was to see the people rescued but NO that would make the film decent. This is a disgrace to humanity and I wish I never watched it. I'd rather watch every: Julia Roberts, Tom Cruise, Sarah Jessica Parker, Nick Cage movie than see anything like this again. DON'T WATCH this, it's pointless and you're sick in the head if you enjoyed this in any stretch of the mind. It's my opinion but it's a solid one haha Ew...

This movie is low budget, nasty and I can't IMAGINE why they bothered putting it out on BluRay! Nothing generally offends me, but this movie just doesn't need to be on ANY shelf for viewing by normal people!

The idea of the movie sounded so hilarious I had to see this. Well, I saw it, and the plot had some holes in it, and the acting was quite poor. The idea was original, so points from that :)
