An average movie

I have to admit that I wasn’t expecting much from this flick but since I have a weak spot for Margot Robbie, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, eventually, I really struggled to care about the damned thing. Basically, the whole thing seemed to another unnecessary new version of a classic character and you might wonder why every decade we get a new version of  Sherlock Holmes, Robin Hood, King Arthur and The Three Musketeers. I mean, I did like the fact that they didn’t go for an origin story but this approach was unfortunately undone by the fact that they still provided some flashback scenes explaining the background of Tarzan. It was too bad because we all know what happened to this iconic character and it felt like a missed opportunity to develop something new or not so familiar about the guy. Another issue was with the tone. Indeed, the tricky thing is that the whole concept of Tarzan is actually rather preposterous and, in this case, they went for some straightforward approach which was rather misguided. Basically, the whole thing was just way too serious. For crying out loud, there were even some kind of political, ecological and historical agendas when the whole thing was after all about the adventures of a half-naked guy hopping from vine to vine. Concerning Alexander Skarsgård, it is obvious that the guy spent months to get a shredded body but, eventually, the Swedish actor still gave a rather safe performance and he was never really intense enough. Margot Robbie was slightly better but the only purpose of her character was to be saved so she didn’t have much to chew on, I'm afraid. Anyway, to conclude, I think my rating was actually rather generous here, the whole thing was rather misguided but I guess it was also rather harmless but don’t expect too much before watching the damned thing.

Strange banalization of Tarzan becuase the film gets to its point relating the legend with wars of the time, american anti colonialism and kinf of politial stuff. Bah.

The Legend of Tarzan review

I have heard good things about this one from work so I decided to go ahead and give it a shot. The cast is pretty great so why not. It's directed by the same guy who did the final four films of Harry Potter! Adam Cozad wrote the average Jack Ryan movie. Craig Brewer was the creator of Hustle & Flow as well as Black Snake Moan. Both of which were awesome if you ask me. I don't even remember why they were going to Tarzan's area in the other adaptations. So it's good to get a little background for in the beginning. Now that is one eerie shot. Oh man this opening is just terrifyingly cool! How does he know English so well though? Maybe it's because this is a while after Tarzan was initially Tarzan. Oh you fancy huh? That's actually kind of messed up! Okay that's pretty cool! That would have been terrifying. What a beautiful moment wow! He is just walking a freaking crocodile!? That evil mother trucker! Christoph Waltz is always such an excellent villain. I always find a calm and collect villain more terrifying than the fierce ones. She is a feisty one. Haha poor George. Okay this train fight is awesome. There is always one that has to be bigger than the rest lol. Ouch that has to be unpleasant. Oh jeez! The moments where the animals have sort of interaction are always so incredible and beautiful. Okay that's just downright scary. Why are humans so cruel!? Oh there it is! I was hoping something like that would happen. That is one insane stampede! What a badass! The ending was pretty decent. I liked it. It was a lot better than I expected, but it was also very different. The acting was quite good. The action was intense. I was perfectly satisfied with the whole thing. I would recommend checking it out. It can be a bit slow paced at times, but if you don't mind that it's good.

Savage Civilization, and Wild Freedom

"And how many men have been enslaved to build your bridge?"

Told during the days of the white exploitation of Africa, this is basically the story of a European capable of leaving colonial ways behind and embracing the primordial life of the jungle.
