An average movie

Apparently, Russel Mulcahy is a Australian director who has mostly made some B features throughout his career, the most notable one being ‘Highlander’ (a childhood favorite). After making this cult classic, it took Mulcahy 5 more years to come with another feature and that year, he managed to come out with not one but two movies, including ‘Highlander II’, one of the most hated sequels ever made but also this rather obscure flick starring Denzel Washington. Basically, it is a typical B feature but, even though I’m not a huge fan of the genre, I thought this one was fairly enjoyable. Above all, I liked the juxtaposition between the sober no-nonsense acting provided by Denzel Washington against the over-the-top hysteria given by John Lithgow. I always had a weak spot for John Lithgow but he is just awesome when playing such a weird psychopath. Denzel Washington, on the other hand, built up a whole career solely playing the straight righteous guy but he does it so well, he always remained a very charismatic lead actor. Back then, he just had his breakthrough with ‘Glory’, his career was finally taking off and he is still in demand nowadays. Anyway, to conclude, even though it is nothing really amazing, it was still a solid B thriller and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
