Pride and Prejudice and Zombies review

Posted : 10 months, 3 weeks ago on 23 June 2023 12:04

(sigh),....the things my children make me watch! Nothing special here,...don't read too much into the movie, grab a beer or two, and enjoy it for what it it,...

An average movie

To be honest, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but since I have a weak spot for Lily James, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, it did sound like a really weird mash-up and I remember that there was a pretty good buzz about this movie before it got released. However, I’m not surprised that it turned out to be a flop after all. Indeed, I don’t think that zombie fans were really eager to have their beloved monsters get stuck in the middle of some stuffy vintage romantic intrigues and, the other way around, I don’t think that Jane Austen fans would be happy to have some ghoulish monsters randomly popping up in the middle of some romantic encounters involving Mr Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet. As a result, you might wonder who was supposed to be the audience for this flick. At least, it seems pretty obvious that the cast (Lily James, Sam Riley, Bella Heathcote, Suki Waterhouse, Douglas Booth, Charles Dance, Jack Huston, Lena Headey, Matt Smith) had quite some fun with this material and the whole thing looked pretty good but, to be honest, I thought it was just really boring. Basically, the only way it could have worked was if they would have gone for something completely wacky, I mean, wasn't it supposed to be the whole point from the very beginning? Unfortunately, instead, they gave us a rather weak version of ‘Pride and Prejudice’ combined with a rather weak zombie flick (the worst part was probably this rather inane sub-plot about the fact that the zombies could be somehow ‘tamed’ by eating some pig brains…) and this mix was just so tedious to behold. Anyway, to conclude, I just didn’t care for the damned thing at all and I don’t think it is really worth a look.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies review

I've been meaning to see this as I'm a huge zombie nerd. I will watch pretty much anything with zombies. Not to say that all of what I watch is good because that would be a lie. Anyways I actually knew about the book version of the movie. Which was pretty much the same as the original just with addition of zombies to throw things off a bit. So I found it funny when it was playing at my theater that people would complain about them destroying a classic this way. Burr Steers writes and directs this. I liked his films Igby Goes Down and Charlie St. Cloud. This is a different pace for him so it should be interesting to see what he does. Oh interesting a slightly different aspect of the lore. That was pretty badass and messed up. Some of the zombie effects look a little strange. OMG was that a snot bubble? That was an amusing and neat title sequence. If I were rich enough I would marry all five daughters lol. If anything Mr. Darcy you are the lamest looking of everyone at the party. Holy shit! I knew that would change his mind. Damn that zombie got messed up. Wow she definitely has the Chinese quickness about her. That was also hilarious to see. Sam Riley has such an odd voice. Now I can't remember if it's just here or it's always been like this. I like the humor spread about here. It's badass how swiftly zombies get dispatched here. So having a ball just is never a good idea. Well that was an interesting little fight. It looks like Cersei is still trouble lol. I kind of figured that was the case. Not all of the reveal though was expected. The ending was cute. There was an extra scene during the credits that warrants a sequel in my opinion. The fight scenes are a bit frantic and aren't dwelled on too much. A few such scenes though are pretty intensely done. The acting is pretty good and the characters are all rather interesting. I thought it was pretty fun. The humor was great and added lightness to the atmosphere. The make up effects varied here and there between excellent and strange looking. Anyways if you like zombies, but are skeptical considering the content don't be. It's fun for men and women. I'd say give it a shot.
