Mockingbird review

Posted : 9 years, 6 months ago on 10 October 2014 09:17

This is from the director of The Strangers so it should be pretty good. There aren't any real big names most people would know, but there are quite a few familiar faces. One thing for sure is you can tell this was produced by The Purge people and it fits along a similar story as The Strangers. I will break this into different sections for each family.

Once Upon a Time in 1995:
Well that is quite a way to start a movie! I have to say I didn't expect that to happen at all. I can tell this is either going to be one crazy movie or it grabbed my attention only to lose it later.

The Family:
It starts off with an adorable family who are getting ready to go out for a trip or something. It does a nice job of building the family members and letting us know who they are. It's strange how they can't turn off the video which seems like something that shouldn't be very possible. Things are starting to escalate and get really strange in a good way. I think this is a good enough reason never to enter any crazy contests. The way they react to things is pretty realistic. One scene I caught was pretty sad to see, but I should have expected it I suppose.

The Woman:
I'm not sure how I feel about her yet. Her story just started and it felt kind of bland so far. It's interesting that everyone thinks they won something though. I think as we get to know her more we find that she is having a rough patch in life. There is an interesting little thing I noticed with her storyline that has my attention now. It must be even scarier to be alone in this kind of situation. She has a lot of the jump scares of the movie. I don't think I like the idea of having people being able to know everything I am doing in my home without my consent.

The Clown:
Okay so this one is pretty interesting. The guy here is pretty much a loser. He wants to please those involved by any means which is never a good sign. He is probably the most enthusiastic about the whole situation. His storyline kind of reminds of the movie 13 Sins where the guy had to different odd things to get more money. I feel like this guy has more comedy in his story. It's kind of funny all the crazy stuff they make him do.

This was pretty crazy and intense. I sort of figured out what would happen about midway, but I didn't expect it to play out fully the way it did. I have to say I didn't see that twist coming at the end. It's a very interesting watch. It's definitely not what I expected it to be and pretty original. It's great for a one time watch. It leaves a bit unanswered, but it's more about the point in time the movie deals with. I could see a sequel being made.
