Last Chance Harvey (2008) review

This film is frankly beautiful and I liked it because of the scarves of a realistic story that often happens, namely, neglecting older adults, which is reflected in their sense that they are a burden on the society. This feeling generates a very bad psychological state and I sense that you are useless and you do not have the value or place you deserve. (Emma Thomson and Dustin Hoffman) They performed very well. I really liked this film and I liked the performance of the acting and also the atmosphere of the film, which was characterized by calm and poetic in many cases.

---------------------------------------------------------

A nice little movie

I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but since I always had a weak spot for Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson, I was quite eager to check it out. Eventually, it was nothing really exceptional but it was just so nice to see Hoffman and Thompson finally playing leads, after being stuck for years playing some supporting roles. Well, they didn’t disappoint me as they both delivered some strong performances for this picture. Furthermore, I thought it was really neat to see a movie dealing with a couple a little bit older than your average couple. Indeed, even though our Western civilization is getting older and older, the average Hollywood movie always focuses on the same boring young attractive people and it is very rare that they tell a story about some elderly people so only for this, I thought it was a refreshing picture. It’s too bad that the story itself was not really strong and, in my opinion, this movie didn't give these fine actors much space to play around with their characters. Still, in spite of its flaws, I thought it was quite enjoyable and I think it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson give great performances in this sweet, very warm - albeit predictable - romantic comedy, beautifully shot against the timeless backdrop of grand old London.

Starring Dustin Hoffman, Emma Thompson, Eileen Atkins, Kathy Baker and James Brolin.
