In Good Company (2004) review

Posted : 11 years, 4 months ago on 18 December 2012 10:47

Dennis Quaid, Topher Grace, Scarlett Johansson, and Marg Helgenberger make an epic team in this comedy about old vs. new and what it means to truly be happy with life.

A good movie

Honestly, I don't really know why but, somehow, I was really eager to check this movie. Apparently, I was one of the few people actually interested by this flick since it was barely seen when it was released. Eventually, even though it was nothing really amazing, I thought it was pretty good and I really liked it. When I think about it, to be honest, the premise was actually pretty lame but what made the movie still interesting is that all the characters had some rather unexpected reactions and behaviors. For example, in a more standard movie, the Topher Grave character would have been a total douche-bag but not here and the same goes for the other characters too. Eventually, there was something really intriguing about these characters and I actually cared about what they were going through. The fact that all the actors involved gave some decent performances must have helped as well. At the time, Topher Grace seemed to have a bright future (I still think he has some potential) but his career was not really impressive during the last 10 years later and, nowadays, he has to stand in the shadow of Ashton Kutcher who is definitely a weaker actor but who has been more successful. To conclude, even though the story was not really mind-blowing, I thought it was entertaining enough and I think it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

The same old thing we did last week? Err.

1. I decided to buy this video because I was eager to watch any of Topher Grace's flicks. I certainly liked him in That '70s Show and it made me wonder why he has so few films. The actor has superb acting skills. And I was right.

2. In fact, when I was watching In Good Company, it felt like watching the same old Eric Forman blurting his old shenanigans and being the same old dumbass as he was in the '70s sitcom. And as always, he cracked me up. He's still very scrawny but at least he didn't twitch. Hahaha. He was just "jumpy" in one scene. :P

3. And I really think that Scarlett Johansson resembles Laura Prepon, yes I'm still babbling about That '70s Show - Donna Pinciotti. Am I right? :D

4. Dennis Quaid's surname was Foreman. And again, another That '70s Show connection? Well except for Red Forman's bald head. :)

5. This film has an okay story but it sucks because Topher and Scarlett didn't end up together. I'm a sucker for happy endings. :P
