Honey review

Posted : 7 years, 7 months ago on 22 September 2016 12:57

So I have never actually seen this. I have only ever watched the second one. I figured since the third one just came out and they are on Netflix I should just check it out already. I mean it's Jessica Alba and Mekhi Phifer! Bille Woodruff has directed every entry in this series so that's respectable. This is the only film by the writers although they have both written for TV. I usually get a kick out of hip hop dance films so I'm hoping this is one of the good ones.

Does anyone ever say something like someone's flavor is hot? I swear this is so by the book. Way too many times I knew where everything would end up going. Besides the dancing I have pretty much seen it all before. The undercover cop scene was pretty terrible though. I think the idea of having their names on their shirts was kind of cute. It's basically a handful of music videos spread throughout a plotline. That honestly didn't bother me. The choreography was actually a little disappointing considering all the hip hop routines I have seen through the years. I think It's still a decent and entertaining watch. There was nice little music video during the credits.

This is so old Romeo is still credited as Lil' Romeo. Jessica Alba is absolutely delightful with an accent that escalates my adoration. Joy Bryant is pretty good as the friend too. Mekhi Phifer is always awesome. Zachary Williams and Romeo added some heart to the whole thing. I liked the hip hop cameos. The characters albeit likable are pretty typical.

The choreography could have been better. They could have strayed from the cliches. The writing could have used some improvement. The characters were likable, but they were a tad too familiar. It wasn't a bad watch though. I wouldn't watch it again, but it was decent.

An average movie

Posted : 10 years, 7 months ago on 16 September 2013 09:25

After her breakthrough with ‘Dark Angel’ (which I have actually never seen), Jessica Alba became the new ‘hit girl’ and quickly moved towards full length features. Instead of taking any risks, she decided to make a dance movie which must have satisfied her fan base at the time but I thought that it was actually rather underwhelming. I mean, to be honest, it was rather well made, Jessica Alba looked terribly charming but the whole thing had a rather pedestrian plot with the usual stereotypes. I mean, the rocky romantic relationship, the evil producers, the big show at the end,… It went just by numbers but I guess that the target audience didn’t mind much (I think I saw it at the time with my step-daughter who was just 12 years old and she probably thought it was pretty neat). On the positive side, the ending was pretty cool, with a catchy tune and some nice dancing but, beside this, the whole thing was just terribly forgettable. A few laters, Jessica Alba would show up in ‘Sin City’ (probably the only good thing she has done so far and she seems to like working with Robert Rodriguez since they made no less than 5 movies together) and her career was really launched. To conclude, I didn’t care much about the whole thing and I don’t think it is really worth a look, expect maybe if you really love the genre.

The necrotizing fasciitis of movies

Posted : 16 years, 3 months ago on 12 January 2008 02:45

I saw this film for FREE and I still want my money back. A desperate usher outide the cinema gave me and a friend entrance to watch a new 'movie' and deliver feeback. If my mouth hadn't been so dry from biting the seat in front, in an effort not to chew off my own tongue..I'd have spat on the page as feedback.

Feisty ghetto gal (Alba) gets the kids to dance instead of shoot each other. The dance sequences could have seen behind Kylie on any generic pop show...and you wouldnt have to pay. A festering hole in cinema that was so bad, I think it gave me small pox.
