"I find a lot of the hurt and pain in this film to be very real and I am somewhat bummed out that they go to the extents they do to turn that pain into traditional horror film spook 'ems, especially when the overall film is of such potency that it is utterly evident that it would work wonderfully even without those trappings. "
"First viewing - Jan. 2nd His House does several things really well. It tells a fresh story by honestly and respectfully representing the cultures at play. It delivers thoughtful commentary on refugee experiences, especially with regard to navigating cultural transitions. And it's got some really effectively scary sequences. Some of the transitions are a bit jarring, yet that's clearly intentional...that doesn't mean it works well though, and was my only gripe while watching the film. Perhaps a "
