An average movie

Posted : 9 years, 9 months ago on 12 July 2014 08:58

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from this flick but since I have a weak spot for Robert Carlyle, I thought I might as well give it a shot. On top of that, Nick, my step-son, is a huge fan of disaster flicks so we ended up watching it together. Well, honestly, it wasn’t really good I’m afraid. First of all, I didn’t notice before watching it but they actually broadcasted the longer version (more than 3 hours…) so that was a quite a bummer, even though the 2nd half was slightly better. Still, in fact, I don’t think it was a complete failure. Indeed, for once, the whole plot felt actually rather believable, at least compared to the usually preposterous plots developed in disaster flicks. Unfortunately, the rest of the movie was really weak. Indeed, you get the usual group of stereotypical characters, struggling with some underwhelming personal dramas and all the actors involved (even Robert Carlyle) gave some poor performances. The score was also really annoying and the directing with some gimmicky freeze frames all the time wasn’t really strong either. To conclude, even though I have seen worse, it still remain a really average flick and I don’t think it is really worth a look.

Flood (2007) review

Posted : 10 years, 1 month ago on 15 March 2014 10:24

I love disaster flicks and have been meaning to watch this for awhile after seeing it on someone's list here. I never even knew about this movie or that it had a pretty stellar cast. It's interesting to see Jessalyn Gilsig playing someone that's nice rather than the characters she plays in Nip/Tuck, Glee, or Vikings. This movie is really boring. There are a handful of decent scenes, but there is really nothing that interesting that happens. Also the acting really sucks from everyone except Robert Carlyle, Jessalyn Gilsig, Ralph Brown, and Tom Hardy. It is pretty cheesy, cliche, and brings absolutely nothing new. I felt like I was watching one of The Asylum production company's movies just with some really good actors mixed in with the awful ones. The ending was really lame. This was definitely a waste of time.

Bad

If you've seen one disaster movie then you're better off not watching Flood. It's a mess - predictable plot, cliched dialog, bad acting and even worse directing. There's no sense of timing and the action criss-crosses between the various characters at a dizzying pace that makes it difficult for you to feel for any of them.

For a good cast of actors - Robert Carlyle, Tom Courtenay, David Suchet and Joanne Whalley, only Joanne Whalley does a halfway decent job.

I have two words for this movie: Stay Away.
