To be honest, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but, since there was a decent cast involved and since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, the most annoying thing about this movie is the way it displayed how the film industry (at least, in the US) has become completely bankrupt creatively speaking. I mean, if they start to remake such B features from the 90’s, I’m afraid they are seriously hopeless. Another weird thing with this movie was that it was the last movie Elliot Page made before his transition (in fact, he has made only one movie since then) and it was just so weird to see him, well, when he was still a girl. Anyway, coming back on the movie itself, just like the original version, the concept was just terribly daft. Especially in this case, it was really unconvincing that a whole hospital wing, fully functioning with state of the art equipment, would be abandoned like that. It was also sad that they made the same mistake made by its predecessor by showing the students getting haunted by their past which was and still is such a rather tedious approach. And, yet, I have to admit that there is still something rather powerful about these resurrection scenes. Obviously, it is all make-believe, so nobody is actually close to be really dying. There was also a pretty cool cast involved (Elliot Page, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev, James Norton, Kiersey Clemons, Kiefer Sutherland) but you wish they all got involved in something more worthwhile though. At least, it was definitely a bold move to get rid off of Elliot Page’s character, basically the main character, before the 3rd act even started. Anyway, to conclude, even if it wasn’t completely awful, like most remakes, it was still a waste of time for everybody involved, including myself, and you should probably avoid it.
