An average movie

Posted : 5 years, 8 months ago on 20 August 2018 08:25

I wasn't really sure what to expect from this movie but since there was a nice cast involved, I thought I might as well check it out. Unfortunately, like most movies dealing with male prostitution, the whole thing just felt seriously misguided. Indeed, even though it was probably supposed to be some quirky comedy, it turned out to be actually rather pretentious and even misogynist. I mean, I do have a weak spot for John Turturro but, not only he gaveย  himself the lead role of the gigolo, but this guy was of course a great lover but also a masseur, aย  competent cook, a flower expert and he could speak maybe 4 or 5 different languages. To make things even more convoluted, our gigolo gets involved with some very religious Jewish widow so it seemed that the whole thing would become some doomed love story but she suddenly dropped him towards the end. Seriously, pretty much nothing worked in this movie which is too bad because the women involved (Vanessa Paradis, Sharon Stone, Sofia Vergara) all delivered some solid performances. It's such a pity above all for Paradis who very rarely gets involved in some US productions. Anyway, to conclude, even though I have seen worse, I thought it was pretty weak and I don't think it is really worth a look.ย

Fading Gigolo review

(Seen in cinema)A surprise. Turturro includes Woody's world in his own world. We see the intersection of both, the lights of decadence, the beauty of imperfection (the rude sex appeal of Fioravante, the bunny teeth of Vanessa Paradis)...
