An average movie

I wasn't expecting much from this flick but since I have a weak spot for Djimon Hounsou and Kevin Bacon, I thought I might as well check it out. Actually, I discovered only after watching the damned thing that it was actually directed by Prachya Pinkaew, the guy responsible for the awesome 'Ong-Bak' so the whole thing actually had some potential. Unfortunately, the whole thing was just terribly underwhelming. Indeed, it reminded me a little bit of 'Bangkok Dangerous'. Basically, those movies take place in Bangkok and provided a dark and ominous world but the plots were just so weak, it was just barely watchable. I mean, Djimon Hounsou really did what he could and he has the potential to be a pretty cool action star in a better movie. Here, I seriously had a hard time to get what was actually the motivation of the main character. The whole gimmick of the young prostitute following him was also terribly lame and poorly executed. On top of that, even the usually dependable Kevin Bacon was completely lost here and really miscast as an English strip-club owner/weapons saler/former secret agent/whatever. To conclude, I think I'm being rather generous with my rating here, it is a really weak action flick and I don't think it is really worth a look.
