An average movie

Posted : 8 years, 6 months ago on 21 October 2015 08:56

Even though this movie has a rather lousy reputation,  since I have always been interested in Jim Sheridan's work, I thought I might as well check it out.  On top of that,  there was a pretty good cast involved. Unfortunately,  the whole thing turned out to be rather underwhelming,  I'm afraid. Apparently,  there were some big issues between Jim Sheridan and the producer and, after doing some re-shooting, they re-cut the film without him resulting in this mess. Basically,  it was some rather weak thriller which didn't quite figure out if it was actually paranormal or psychological. Like many other thrillers, it keeps you in the dark for as long as possible during a very slow and boring built-up and, suddenly, during the last 10 minutes, it went really fast and everything was explained with something rather far-fetched.  Fortunately,  I haven't seen before the trailer which was at the time heavily criticized for revealing too many of the movie's secrets. Even so, it didn't work very well and reminded me of 'The Sixth Sense' and 'The Others', 2 movies I didn't particularly enjoy.  Eventually,  this movie would be mostly remembered as the one during which Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz fell in love and they have been together ever since. To conclude,  even though the whole thing did have some potential,  it was still rather disappointing and I don't think it is really worth a look.
