An average movie

Posted : 7 years, 8 months ago on 6 September 2016 09:32

Since this movie had a really lame reputation, I wasn’t expecting much but since I have a weak spot for Naomi Watts and since my wife has always been interested in Diana, I thought we might check this one together. First of all, even though my wife was always convinced that she was someone really fascinating, I was never convinced. In fact, it is not really Diana’s fault but, in my opinion, the Royal figures must be one of the most useless kind of celebrities, just behind the Reality TV stars. In this case, during the whole thing, they keep telling us that she was the most famous woman in the world at the time but, seriously, what did she actually do to actually earn this title? Well, this movie certainly didn’t improve the perception I had on this woman, that's for sure. Basically, according to this tale, she was a boring woman, with a boring life and she was involved in some rather boring romances. In fact, I don’t think we should blame Naomi Watts as she gave as usual a really solid performance but the material was just really too weak. It was also surprising and disappointing that, even though they keep showing the paparazzi constantly during the whole thing, they still chose not to show their final chase which would be obviously fatal for her. It could have been a powerful and suspenseful ending but I guess they either thought it was inappropriate or they just didn't have the budget to shoot such a complex action scene. Anyway, it is really difficult to believe that this movie was delivered by the same guy who was also responsible for ‘Der Untergang’, easily one of the most fascinating biographical movies ever made. To conclude, I'm afraid this movie really deserves its poor reputation and I don’t think it is really worth a look, except maybe if you are a die-hard fan of Diana.

Princess and her secret affair.

Posted : 9 years, 7 months ago on 22 September 2014 08:38

A biographical movie of princess Diana. It tells the story of her last two years of life, especially the romance side. A better movie than I anticipated. I think Jessica Chastain would have been also a good choice to play the role princess Diana, anyway Naomi Watts excelled in her opportunity. The movie did not fail because of the cast, characters and performances, the thing is I really don't know why, different people say different reason, but I enjoyed it. This real incident was happened when I was a little kid, I did not know the whole story then till I watch it now.

After all Diana was also a human like everybody else and I did not find anything wrong with her romantic affair in her final days. In fact, as a cinematic it chronicles on the sufficient amount of limited characters. Lots of the big names were just left out. That's great because the movie had all the time to concentrate on the particular relationship. Except that I waited for the end tragedy scene which never came. I assumed, that could have been the highlight of the movie, which might have brought the tears. So I believe it is a great let down, the movie did not have the car crash scene. Especially the real reason behind it remains fishy and mystery. Naveen Andrews was great, but he was no way near to Hasnat Khan in appearance.

There's about 5 billion people on this planet who can say they love me!
But is there one who can stay with me?

There might be some flaws in the movie, because in the biopics people often complain about many things. Those who observed all this incident closely at that time when it happened may recognize errors. But I feel modification sometimes need while transforming a real life to cinematic. Like any romantic movie it can be enjoyed by everyone who love biography. I did and liked it, certainly not a class movie like it should have been.

Diana review

Posted : 10 years, 2 months ago on 3 March 2014 05:32

I didn't even know about this to be honest. I saw this on my flight returning to the states from Ethiopia. I decided to watch it as I find Naomi Watts a stunner and I enjoy Naveen Andrews. However it really wasn't worth the time that I could have used for sleeping. The story wasn't engaging and was just plain boring. Sorry Diana God rest her soul, but this part of her life just did not need to be put into film. Nothing interesting happens on-screen, the chemistry of Andrews and Watts wasn't very believable, and just didn't do anything captivating. The acting is good that isn't an issue with this. It just wasn't a story that had any luster. I think had there been better chemistry and more to the story it could have been something. It really isn't worth the watch.

"Diana" (2013)

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Diana chronicles the last two years of Princess Diana's life, with particular focus on her relationship with heart surgeon Hasnat Khan.
This one, I only saw out of morbid curiosity. And, while I didn't think it quite lived up to its overwhelmingly bad reputation, it's still pretty lame.
The biggest problem with it is just the fact that the love story takes up nearly all the screen time. And on top of that, it doesn't seem the least bit realistic; it feels like a trite piece of Sunday afternoon TV fluff. Even though I know nothing about Princess Diana myself, I can understand the animosity there: it's applying such a feeble story to a topic that, for a lot of people, is a very delicate subject.
Diana's public life is hardly ever shown, and whenever it is, it always comes completely out of nowhere, like the movie suddenly remembered, "Oh yeah, maybe I should talk about that stuff too!" For God's sake, her divorce is completely skipped over and only mentioned in passing!
Not to mention, the stereotyping is just absurd. There's one scene where the Princess is at a jazz club in disguise, and she howls with laughter when the host drops an F-bomb.
So yeah, this movie's pretty ridiculous! But the reason why I give it two stars (out of five) instead of one is because I never found myself truly angry at it; it was all just dull and unremarkable.

My rating: 35%
