A very good movie

Posted : 6 years, 10 months ago on 30 June 2017 08:27

Since I kept hearing some really good things about this flick, I was really eager to check it out. Well, for once, I wasn't disappointed, that's for sure. I mean, a couple of years ago, Nicolas Winding Refn released 'Drive' which turned out to be a major cult-classic at the time but, to be honest, I thought it was a decent watch at best but the guy definitely displayed some potential and this movie was much more superior in my opinion. Indeed, it was such an intense mad piece of mayhem and I really loved the surrealistic bits he put from time to time. Of course, I was also impressed by Tom Hardy who gave here a star-making performance. In my opinion, this movie also displayed how useless the prison system actually is. Indeed, someone weak or half-way decent will be probably completely destroyed in such environment and someone bad like Bronson would only become even worse so what's the whole point then? Eventually, even if they didn't really glorify Bronson as some might think, I'm still not sure if the guy was in fact so interesting after all but Winding Refn and Hardy managed to get most of this material. To conclude,  I was really impressed by this movie and it is definitely worth a look.

Bronson review

Posted : 12 years, 2 months ago on 28 February 2012 09:15

Director Nicolas Winding Refn tells the true story of Charles Bronson (formerly Michael Peterson)—Britain’s most violent prisoner—and does the impossible: with great ease, we are able to relate to Bronson not as the monster he is put forth as, but as the man behind it. Bronson wants to make a name for himself. This is not an uncommon dream among humans, however, his methods for achieving this dream is anything but. He views prison not as punishment, but, as he states it: it was an opportunity and a place where soon every native was gonna know my name. Passed from prison to asylum back to prison and even back out onto the streets, no one can or tries to understand him until he is allowed to express his ideas through art. This is a magnificent film, one that will unleash the Bronson within you—because believe me, sometime you will need it.
