A good movie

Posted : 7 years, 5 months ago on 7 November 2016 04:39

To be honest, it has been a while since I have seen this flick and I should definitely re-watch it at some point. Basically, Johnny Depp showed up in this movie just before becoming a huge star with ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl’ and I wonder if it would attract any audience if it was released nowadays. Personally, I always had some mixed feelings about this flick. Indeed, on one hand, it was a decent (supposedly) true story, there was a really nice cast involved (Johnny Depp, Penélope Cruz, Franka Potente, Rachel Griffiths) and they all delivered some decent performances but, on the other hand, it still was missing something to be truly remarkable. I mean, if you would put it aside some really amazing crime features like ‘Goodfellas’, for example, it is actually rather forgettable. Concerning Ted Demme, this movie finally got him the attention of the mainstream audience but, unfortunately, he would die about a year later, ironically with some cocaine in his system. To conclude, even though it was nothing really amazing, I thought it was still a decent watch and I think it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre or if you are interested in Johnny Depp’s work.

As all of you know, this movie is based on a true story. So it will make you fucked up end of it. But don't think about the end while you are watching. Just watch. With minimum expactation, most of the movies are perfect. Blow is one of them. Maybe the biggest one of them!

All my life I tossed feelings, and now I'm exhaust

"Blow" - one of the few excellent crime drama, which, perhaps, trying to make the life of known drug dealers, but they do it so ingeniously, that sometimes you want to at least one minute to try yourself in the shoes of Tony Montana's, or about George Jung. Since the "Scarface" - my favorite film of this genre, "Cocaine" just could not appeal, and Johnny Depp's character here is even more sympathy than Al Pacino in 1983. Morality is the same - pursuit of the American dream in this manner in the end will not lead to anything good, no matter how much wealth and power she brought. And most interesting - these characters are all well aware, so a simple conclusion - in another they are your life and not just imagined.

First of all, in this movie interesting story - it is a gradual ascent of the young George Jung on top of the triumph of his own, he could not exist as most people around him, this whole routine and monotony are not left him the choice. Certainly, any drug trafficking - the worst, what can dedicate himself a man, even in the movies it looks so appealing and interesting. On the other hand, such a person, as Jung, deserves some respect, because going for their dreams and achieved all that I could wish for. This is already in a tragic finale, he is aware of something like that in reality he wanted from life, in addition to the wealth and respect in circles of drug traffickers.

Also, unlike the same Tony Montana, he did not go ahead, did not suffer a mental disorder and not going crazy from the mountains of cocaine. I do not know in real life this character of the film Jang performed by Johnny Depp looks like a harmless, quite a decent guy. His case, he does not Rotate through brute force and arrogance, but by cunning and respect for business partners. Of course, in this business are inevitable continuous killings. betrayal, prison, and other "joys of cocaine Life. The fact that the main character was well aware that he is doing and why he himself has repeatedly explained during the film that shows us the real firmness of his personality.

The director Ted Demme turned out no worse than the other creators of first-class crime dramas. "Cocaine" is interesting, pretty shot "dynamic", but Brian De Palma, is likely to twenty years after the "Persons with a scar, it would be an order of magnitude more powerful. But all this demonstrated by the movies The American dream seems even here is very attractive. And the film is good finale, because the more people look a version of the life drug dealer is, the more of them will be able to make their point of view. In addition to excellent Depp, Penelope Cruz remembered role and Franka Potente, cast here is excellent. Who is the composer Graeme Revell, I think, to speak not need. In general, one of the best crime dramas in film.

In my opinion - strong intelligent film, such films are very few.

Compelling, engrossing drama.

"Life passes most people by while they're making grand plans for it."

Legendary actor Johnny Depp again proves he is a versatile performer that can brilliantly accomplish any role that is tossed in his direction. Of course, I watched Blow because I was attracted by the cast led by the impeccable Depp.

Blow is based on the true story of an American drug smuggler who built a solid reputation for himself. George Jung (Depp) is a young man seeking a decent career. But he realises that there is a lot of money to garner in the business of drug smuggling.

After being busted while transporting pot, he then becomes a distributor of cocaine. Jung literally made the cocaine market in the United States, and it is rumoured that in real life he supplied 85% of the product available on the market at the time.

Blow chronicles the rise and fall of the drug dealer who led an extraordinary life and made a name for himself during his intermittent career frequently interrupted by being sent to prison. The film features a variety of different locations in addition to a number of different decades as the story progresses. This is a chance to show skill on the part of those who worked on costumes, sets and especially make-up. Depp looks genuinely older as the account of his character's life evolves.

The film tells a remarkable tale and can't be faulted for its production values. Blow is a vehicle for engrossing direction, compelling performances - just all round superb filmmaking.

Johnny Depp's performance was nothing short of fantastic. With a new character dropped into his lap brings new opportunities for him to further display his diverse talents. His character is fresh, original, and nothing that mirrors his previous work. Of course this is the beauty of Depp's work: never playing the same character multiple times. There are so many scenes when the poignancy of his performance brings you close to tears. The very last scene brought tears to my eyes.

Ray Liotta was a particular stand out in the film because he played his role with such authenticity. Although his character's son is a drug dealer who has been caught numerous times he doesn't care. Instead he always has love and respect for his son. Liotta captures everything in a father figure that we can all relate to - i.e. showing endless fatherly support towards a son.

The rest of the performances are very compelling. One could barely recognise Penélope Cruz as the bitter, ignorant wife to George Jung. Cruz displays a diverse selection of emotions; ranging from sympathy to pungent rage. Please note that high levels of profanity are present when the drama gets profound. All in all; this film contains a brilliant cast to tell such a story.

Strong direction is another vital ingredient for the success of the movie. Ted Demme's direction is focused; the pacing is slow, but he manages to keep something interesting remaining on the screen. Even during heavy drama it's very compelling and difficult to throw your interest.

One of the qualities I most admired was the use of classic rock music. Director Demme was a fan of classic rock, as was Johnny Depp. I was psyched when the first song was by The Rolling Stones.

Blow is an intriguing film that was a daring move on the part of the filmmakers. George Jung is still in prison and still haunted by his experiences when he dealt drugs. Watching a gripping account of his life will make you want to investigate further. Depp spent several days with the real Jung to ensure he played the role accurately and did justice to the source material.

Blow ended up being one of the best films of 2001. In a year filled with highly anticipated cinematic releases (i.e. the first instalment of Lord of the Rings). It was a breath of fresh air to see a drama like this hit the big screen. If your attention span allows you to sit through the whole thing, you won't regret it.

Blow review

Blow is one of those movies you'll either love or hate, depending on whether or not you like watching movies based on the story of one person. In this case, it follows the life of George Jung, one of the biggest drug dealers and the man who established the American cocaine market in the 1970's. This film shows everything you could want to know about this guy, through the good times, the bad times and the really bad times. He didn't exactly have all the happiness in life that you could want, but this is still a great watch finding out every detail about George Jung and his life.

The end is sad but touching in a way that it leaves you wondering what is really happening with George now. I have to say that the narration was perfect for some of the scenes, even just expressing the emotions with words made it fantastic. It was like you were inside George's head, knowing exactly what he was going through in any part of the movie. When something disappointing happened I could really see the emotions coming, or when something happens that you might not think is fair you feel unsatisfied. Yet George takes you through the good times as well, which I have to say is more satisfying.

Johnny Depp again showed his versatility in this film, I've said it before and I will say it again; there's no other with talent like he has. Ray Liotta deserves to be mentioned, though his part was small compared to others he really was brilliant. Overall this was a really great watch, everyone should watch this at some point if you think you'll like it or not, hopefully you will.

'May the wind always be at your back and the sun upon your face.'
