Likable

Posted : 2 years, 1 month ago on 1 April 2022 10:26

I can understand why Big Daddy or Adam Sandler mayn't be for everybody. I am not a fan of Adam Sandler and Big Daddy while a likable movie and one of Sandler's better films could have been a little more. Sandler himself while the character takes a while to warm to is good here, as are the supporting cast, the kid in particular is very cute rather than annoying. Apart from an occasionally predictable story, some uneven pacing and one or two slapstick moments that are more cringe-worthy than funny, Big Daddy has a heartfelt and entertaining story with some scenes that did touch me, nice production values and soundtrack, a fun script, good direction and some slapstick and gross-out moments that worked out better than anticipated. All in all, a likable film. 7/10 Bethany Cox

Another unfunny comedy

Is it me or are comedies getting worse? 'Big Daddy' is one of those comedies that isn't even funny. I watched it since it was on Netflix

Only at brief times, is it funny, at common other times, it is bland, gross and badly acted

'Big Daddy' is another useless comedy and not worth a look at all

Definitely Not Sandler's Worst

Posted : 11 years, 3 months ago on 19 January 2013 10:42

Just had a quick flick through the old reviews done on this film and I came across one saying it's: Sandler's worst movie.

Seriously?! I mean, out of all the terrible films Adam Sandler has done, people even have the cheek to call this very average film "bad". There's a difference between average and bad. And being since I've seen most of Sandler's films, even including Going Overboard that features in the bottom IMDb 250, then I think I have more of an idea of what's to be called "the worst".

I have to admit though, I just thought it was going to be so bad that I'd feel physically ill, I was wrong to a certain degree. And yes, it's billions and billions of miles away from being "brilliant", but it's not Sandler's worst movie. Yes, it's sentimental and mawkish in parts, but I believe some people are semi-ashamed that they didn't find a Sandler movie THAT bad.

Yes, it's kind of the same thing, but just 'better', Adama Sandler plays the 30 year old slob, as usual and then learn that he needs to change his way, blah blah, yeah. But some aspects of the film, were alright, really. It's watchable for sure, not amazing or overly funny, but it's far from Sandler's worst film. And if you're still not entirely convinced by my words, then watch Going Overboard, then tell me what you think.

So, to all the people thinking they're so clever for saying that they disliked a Sandler movie, just be quite and stop watching his films. They can't be that bad if people who claim to say they're rubbish, still go an see them as soon as he has a new film out. That just doesn't make sense, does it?

An average movie

Posted : 13 years, 1 month ago on 17 March 2011 01:23

I wonder if it was the very first movie that I watched starring Adam Sandler. Anyway, I remember it very well when I saw this movie. Indeed, back then, I was about to become a father for the first time (actually, I already had 2 step-children but my biological daughter was soon to be born) and my wife saw this movie on DVD and she thought it would be neat gift for me. It was kind of sweet of her but she had no idea if it was any good and, indeed, the damned thing turned out to be seriously lame. I mean, I have to admit it, if you would compare it to what Sandler has been making lately, you could almost say that it was watchable but it was still rather cringe-inducing to behold. As usual, Sandler portrays one of his typical moronic character who was supposed to be hilarious but I really didnโ€™t see what was supposed to be so funny about this guy. Anyway, to conclude, even though I have seen worse movies with this actor, it was stil pretty weak and I donโ€™t think it is worth a look, except maybe if you are a die-hard fan of the genre.ย

Big Daddy review

Posted : 15 years, 11 months ago on 7 June 2008 10:47

I am a huge Adam Sandler fan. The reason for that, is because of films like these that he stars in. Every one of his films are hilarious in their own way, and they all have that Adam Sandler spark to them. "Big Daddy", does not disappoint. It was a hilarious film, with great scenes, and an awesome plot. Adam Sandler plays the role of Kevin Garrity. He is asked to take custody of a young child named Julian. Throughout the film, they begin to bond, and become great friends. I think this is a great role for Sandler. He had great acting, and was very entertaining. He is one of the best actors in the business.

This movie is just as hilarious as Adam Sandler is. If not my all-time favourite of Adam Sandler's movies then its sure to come close.
