Shagadelic, baby!

Posted : 1 year, 3 months ago on 27 January 2023 09:42

Words cannot describe how wonderful this film was. The story is admittedly daft, but the film itself is witty, sophisticated and hysterically stupid, while being fast, furious and fun as well. The humour is hilarious to the point of sides splitting, from the mocking of the fashion and musical style of the Swinging Sixties period, to countless references to 007, Matt Helm and Our Man Flint. And Austin's catchphrases?... groovy! The film looks amazing, with bright colourful sets and great costumes, and the soundtrack is funky. Then we have Mike Myers brilliant as Austin Powers(better than he was in Cat in the Hat anyway, the less said about that travesty the better), and hysterically over-the-top as the arch-nemesis Dr Evil, and Elizabeth Hurley fabulously sexy as Vanessa Kensington. Overall, wonderful film, better than I thought it would be. Shagadelic, baby! 9/10 Bethany Cox

A very good movie

'Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery' is a spoof movie, but that doesn't mean it isn't funny right? Right?

'Austin Powers' takes on various movie spoofs, mainly 'James Bond' and has inspired spoofs such as 'The Simpsons', the film gets funnier every minute of screentime, and features hilarious acting from Mike Myers. The dialogue is certainly adult orientated, and not for kids, so if your kids have to watch Myers, watch 'Shrek' (which is also very good though)

The character of Austin Powers (Mike Myers) has become a movie icon. The character delivers sexy, flirtatious dialogue and gets involved in all sorts of sex jokes! This character along with Dr. Evil, have become two popular Mike Myers characters (in addition to Shrek and Fat Bastard) and they appear in this hilarious non-stop comedy movie!

"Debonair. Defiant. Defrosted."

"Have you ever just been among a herd of goats for five months, living as one of them?"

*blinks* Look, I'm not a not.... They're both "Jay Roach film(s)", okay?

I am not obsessed with that movie.

"Day after day, alone on a hill
The man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still."

"You can't turn a corner without making friends,
Every second, life gets better,
I don't know where it will end!"

Oh, c'mon, there's some serious thematic link-y-ness here.

"I don't really care....

There's a,
Song in my ear
I've been hearing for years~
Somehow it always appears."

No, really.

"I'm your father. Dr. Evil."

*smiles*

"I call it the Nefario Principle!"

*shrugs*

(8/10)

An average movie

For years, I wasn't interested in this flick, I didn't think it would be really funny and I didn't really want to watch it. However, since I kept hearing good things about it, I thought I should give a try. Eventually, it wasn't bad at all. I think that the masterstroke of Mike Myers was to create a character who was really funny. Furthermore, even though he looks and sounds stupid, Austin Powers is so self-confident that he is actually kind of cool and could help root for the guy eventually. Anyway, it is a good mix and the fish-out-water situation was very well played as well. Furthermore, Elizabeth Hurley was just born to play such a part and gave a pretty decent performance, too bad we don't hear much from here anymore. Of course, it remains a parody and, as a result, the plot is rather weak and some jokes are really lame but I'm afraid it is inherent to the genre. To conclude, I think it deserves its reputation, it is a well made and funny spoof and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery review

Austin Powers: International Man Of Mystery is a hilarious film and definitely a classic to be remembered for years and years. Mike Meyers could not have performed better. His hysterical facial gestures and dialogue are so fun to watch, and never get old. I still never knew how he got all the women lol, I guess he has a charm or something, but either way he is great.

The story is extremely goofy of course, but it is basically flawless. It is just pure silly entertainment for about 1 hr. and a half.

Dr. Evil is also one hysterical character, he has some crazy dialogue and gestures, for example the pinky to mouth thing, that is classic! His son (Seth Green) is a great addition as well, he never disappoints.

If you do not like Austin Powers, then I really do not know what to tell you.
