An average movie

For years, I wasn't interested in this flick, I didn't think it would be really funny and I didn't really want to watch it. However, since I kept hearing good things about it, I thought I should give a try. Eventually, it wasn't bad at all. I think that the masterstroke of Mike Myers was to create a character who was really funny. Furthermore, even though he looks and sounds stupid, Austin Powers is so self-confident that he is actually kind of cool and could help root for the guy eventually. Anyway, it is a good mix and the fish-out-water situation was very well played as well. Furthermore, Elizabeth Hurley was just born to play such a part and gave a pretty decent performance, too bad we don't hear much from here anymore. Of course, it remains a parody and, as a result, the plot is rather weak and some jokes are really lame but I'm afraid it is inherent to the genre. To conclude, I think it deserves its reputation, it is a well made and funny spoof and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
