Jūken Sentai Gekiranger (2007)
Ep. 23 - GUREGURE! Sukeban Captain
(Ran & Miki)
Written by: Naruhisa Arakawa
Head Writer: Michiko Yokote
Plot? Ran undergoes a personality change and becomes a sukeban. This causes Miki to step in and reveal a surprising part of her youth.
Why is it Good? This could have just been a classic example of an evil Ranger episode and end it at that. Especially since Gekiranger only has one female Ranger and supporting cast doesn't matter as much. However, we instead have two females - with a significant age gap - who are revealed to have more in common than they think.

Ep. 17 - Too Cool?! The Awesome Super Miku
(Chisato & Miku)
Written by: Naruhisa Arakawa
Head Writer: Junki Takegami
Plot? Miku is accidentally hit with a beam that turns her into "Super Miku" and makes her smarter. Chisato sees that Miku is physically unwell from this and worries about her friend.
Why is it Good? It really lets the girls show off and be cool, highlights just how much they care for each other, teaches a good moral on being yourself, and doesn't sacrifice them to the boys for the finisher.

Shuriken Sentai Ninninger (2015)
MOVIE - Ninnin Girls VS Boys
(Fuuka & Kasumi)Written by: Kento Shimoyama
Head Writer: Kento Shimoyama
Plot? After the team parted ways at the end of the series, Fuuka's mother shows up and takes over, forming Ninnin Girls. The rest of the team returns to find themselves not needed anymore, forcing a contest to determine which gender gets to keep the team.
Why is it Good? Toei gave Super Sentai a girl-heavy movie and introduced two brand new, super plot relevant women! Girls VS Boys gave us our very first female Green Ranger! Also, Fuuka is the best. I'd been saying it since episode one, but anyone who denies it now, after this movie, is obviously a liar.

Power Rangers Jungle Fury (2008)
Ep. 11 - Pushed to the Edge
(Lily & Camille & Jellica)
Written by: Jackie Marchand
Showrunner: Bruce Kalish
Plot? Camille is shunned by Carnisoar for interrupting his training with Dai Shi, finding solace with Lily at Jungle Karma Pizza. Camille then tries to resurrect Dai Shi a new master, but Jellica rejects him, taking Camille as her pupil instead.
Why is it Good? While it is mostly a Camille episode, she has lots of fantastic interactions with all of the female cast members. However, this episode was very prophetic with Jellica, Camille's ally, betraying her and Lily, Camille's nemesis, blindly befriending her.

Ep. 7 - Let Sleeping Zords Lie
(Shelby & Kendall)
Written by: Judd Lynn
Showrunner: Judd Lynn
Plot? Shelby is fed up with no one taking her ideas seriously and runs off to Kendall with the idea for an energem tracker. The two are able to discover the location of a new zord, but not before Sledge's crew also reads the signal and gets to it first.
Why is it Good? This episode is the first step in Shelby's maturity, shows Kendall as someone who is not perfect all the time, has two women doing science together, and might possibly be the best episode in all of Dino Charge. Kendall is smart but stubborn, Shelby is stubborn but smart, and you cannot convince me that they were not on a science date.

Ninpuu Sentai Hurricaneger (2002)
Ep. 30 - Idol and Friendship
(Nanami & Furabiijo)
Written by: Naruhisa Arakawa
Head Writer: Junichi Miyashita
Plot? Furabiijo appears to have turned a new leaf and Nanami's manager makes them an idol duo. However, Furabiijo is not quite as reformed as she appears to be.
Why is it Good? While not physically able to have a female Ranger duo episode, Hurricaneger takes its lemons and makes lemonade by still giving us a unique, yet believable, female friendship between a hero and a villain that hadn't really interacted prior.

Power Rangers Lost Galaxy (1999)
Ep. 12 - Orion Rising
(Kendrix & Maya)
Written by: Denise Skinner
Head Writer(s): Judd Lynn & Jackie Marchand
Plot? Kendrix makes a birthday cake for Damon, but Maya ends up eating it in her search for food. Meanwhile, the girls and guys are separated while the villains search for the Lights of Orion.
Why is it Good? It's one of the more realistic showings of the girls being different without resorting to a spell or having one (or both) come off as obnoxious. Also, Leo gets hit in the face with cake.

Engine Sentai Go-onger (2008)
Ep. 26 - A Love Affair
(Saki & Miu)
Written by: Shou Aikawa
Head Writer: Junki Takegami
Plot? Saki decides to play matchmaker when Bear-RV develops a crush on Jetras, but Miu is not having any of it. Meanwhile, Kegalesia's suitor turns his affections towards Bear-RV and the girls have to rescue her.
Why is it Good? While most would say that episode 38 is the better episode (and I do love that episode), but this episode looks a bit more in depth into the characters and their relationships, while episode 38 is more of a straight "guys can't fight; girls save the day" episode. It is very underlooked, mostly due to the fact that the setup is a love story, which is a shame.

Samurai Sentai Shinkenger (2009)
Ep. 13 - Heavy Cry
(Mako & Kotoha)
Written by: Yasuko Kobayashi
Head Writer: Yasuko Kobayashi
Plot? While out shopping, Mako notices a Gedoushuu plot that involves parents abandoning their children for cheap substitutions. The boys later become immobilized by a variant of these children, leaving the girls to not only take care of a large group of children, but also take out the monster by themselves.
Why is it Good? The Ranger plot is one of my favorite episode plots in all of toku. It may be silly, and super cheaply done, but I love those fake children so much. And then Yasuko Kobayashi has to whiplash that with a heart-wrenching story on the girls' side.

Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger (2004)
Ep. 39 - Requiem World
(Jasmine & Umeko)
Written by: Naruhisa Arakawa
Head Writer: Naruhisa Arakawa
Plot? Umeko volunteers to act as bait for a dream hopping Alienizer, making a promise to Jasmine in the process to come back safely.
Why is it Good? It is a fairly unique take on an episode, and pretty trippy in its own right. And, while Twin Cam Angel may have established how much they respected and looked up to each other, Requiem World shows just how far both of the girls will go for each others' safety.
jenndubya's rating:
While Power Rangers & Super Sentai are primarily boy-focused, they do sometimes have episodes all about the female characters on the show. Some horrible, but some surprisingly excellent. These are the best of the best.
Despite the name, the friendship does not have to be between two Rangers. It could be the friendship of any two (or more) females on the show - heroes, supporting or antagonists.
