Uncharted 2: Among Thieves - PlayStation 3
Uncharted 2 not only surpassed my expectations but some how became an instant classic. From the solid single player, one of which that is longer than any non-rpg in about 10 years, and a multiplayer mode that is both rewarding with new abilities but also with zany holiday treats and free dlc thus far.
The first game was very much Indiana Jones and this one some how creates the ultimate blockbuster experience. Easily the best game thus far in this generation of gaming.

Resident Evil 5 - Xbox 360
To say I was excited for Resident Evil 5 would have been a lie. Despite not liking part 4, I'm a true fan and with returning favorites I knew this would be good. To beat a game 4 times in 3 days and a total of 8+ times this year, you just know the game is good.
It's not perfect but damn is it fun and with so many different weapons, difficulties and the sweet co-op, it's hard to put this one down. I honestly can't wait for the two DLC episodes coming in 2010.

Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack In Time - PlayStation 3
Huge R&C fan here and after Quest for Booty I knew I was going to be in for a treat. The game is beautiful to watch and filled with witty dialog. One of the best villains in the series is back and now Clank has some snazzy new powers that make his sections feel like a real game and not just some tacked on mini game.
Only real flaw would be lack of multiplayer but the story is long and has new game + and harder difficulties and secrets.

inFAMOUS - PlayStation 3
Who cares about Infamous? Suckerpunch brought us Sly Cooper which honestly isn't a favorite of mine and really went downhill. Infamous however captures the fun of being a superhero. While it isn't as crazy as Crackdown, it's still a blast, fairly long and has one of the best plot twists out there.
My only complaint was how stiff some of the wall climbing felt. Otherwise it's fun and pretty and now has free DLC!

Dragon Age: Origins - Xbox 360
Dragon Age was a title I was gonna pass on but the price was right, the free DLC also helped me decide. Not only that but this is the only game on my list that I didn't beat.
It's a rich and rewarding game, more so than Mass Effect and it's a lot more alive than Oblivion. I just wish I could find time to really die into the layers of story telling that the game offers

The Beatles: Rock Band - Xbox 360
The first of a few non owned games for me. I got my hands (legit) on this before it came out. You really need to be a Beatles fan to get the most out of it. So why is it on this list and so high? Because from the first moments of your first song you can just see the amount of love and attention that went into this game. It's fun and sometimes trippy but it's also a blast to just jam with some friends, be it real or over Live.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii - Nintendo Wii
This wasn't even on my radar as I thought it was some silly little mini game brawler or something. Thankfully I was misinformed and gave it a rent and boy was I glad. It's old school Mario but with some twists. Granted I played it alone and made it through the game without a single problem but I was having fun the entire time.
Multiplayer looks fun but hectic and the lack of on-line abilities for this makes it a useless feature for me as no one I know whats to hang out and pay the Wii.

LEGO Rock Band - Xbox 360
I love Rock Band and I tend to enjoy the Lego games but this seemed a bit too silly and a bad mix. But there's something weird here, it oozes with a charm that draws you in. The little plot moments are just too much fun and fit with the different songs that go with them.
Flaws would be the fact that you can't really change or build anything, a major Lego factor so I was let down there. I also really enjoyed the kid friendly song list.

Borderlands - Xbox 360
Everyone was raving about Borderlands and then I caught a stream of it and thought to myself "Gee, this looks fun". The basic thing being said was that it was like Fallout. Boys and girls, this is nothing like Fallout. It has no plot, it's a bit tough in spots but by god is it a blast to play with friends. It's over the top characters and the little jokes thrown in helped it reach the number 9 spot in my list.

WET - Xbox 360
WTF is Wet? I thought it was a racing game... Yeah... I don't know why. But you know what, this game was a mofoing hoot to play. Over the top blood bath, jumping over highway battles and just crazy **** left and right.
A Tarrantino game at it's core. The only downside was the ending just felt flat as you do nothing when you should be doing something. This is easily the biggest surprise of the year for me.
