Silent Hill - PlayStation
It made me feel fear. It's definitely the most horrific. The story is rather simple, although the storytelling is very sophisticated. Unlike other survival horror games at the time, this was sophisticated and psychological. It also allowed you to walk while aiming and strafe and had unlimited inventory. It was also fully polygonal.

Silent Hill 3 - PlayStation 2
I really like this game. Imagery is at its best. Story is even simpler than SH1 though. It's the directo sequel to SH1. And it features separate choices of difficulty for combat and puzzles.

Silent Hill 2 - PlayStation 2
Outstanding story and very atmospheric. But I don't like it so much.

Silent Hill 4: The Room - PlayStation 2
Very unique even within the franchise. The last good SH game. But it's WAY too hard! You can only save by going back to your apartment (where you play in first person), has a limited inventory and can only store extra items in your room, and later not even your room is safe anymore, it becomes haunted. Also some melee weapons break and there's even unkillable ghosts.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories - Nintendo Wii
Even though it's a good game, it's not a good Silent Hill game. It's supposedly a reimagining of SH1, but with little connection. The story is good, however. Also, there is no combat, just running from enemies.

And will probably never play
P.T. - PlayStation Network
This really doesn't seem like it would be good as a Silent Hill game. It was going to be directed by Hideo Kojima of Metal Gear fame with the help of the film director Guillermo del Toro and the main character would be voiced and mocapped by Norman Reedus. The game wouldn't be called P.T. (playable teaser), but Silent Hills.

Silent Hill: Cage of Cradle
I wish so much to be able to read this manga. It was released only in Japan (in japanese) in cellphones and was drawn by Ito (monster designer of SH games) and written by Owaku (scriptwriter in SH games) and is a prequel to the first game.
Silent Hill (2006)
Visually very faithful to the games, with a story that's almost entirely faithful to that of the first game. The problem is the changes to the story from game to film are bad and the imagery lacks the meaning it has in the games.
