Suikoden II - PlayStation
When we think of the pinnacle of the PSX role playing game, it's very easy to be drawn to dramatic over the top cuts cenes Perhaps not the obvious choice when we think of the top PSX role playing gamesSuikoden II is perhaps not the obvious choice
I actually played Suikoden II before playing the original, which probably explains why I rate it so highly

Final Fantasy VII - PlayStation
There's probably not much I can say about Final Fantasy VII that hasn't already been said time and time again. This game is colossal and remains one of the most important releases in the history of gaming.
Square's decision in 1997 to finally unleash it's flagship title on the whole world showed legions of doubters that a video game could be just as deep as a book or just as involving as a
...and even though it's developed a worryingly __ fan boy following and the translation is riddled with faults, it remains to this day one of the greatest games ever released.

Chrono Cross - PlayStation
Chrono Cross upon it's release faced the unenviable task of living up to the legend that is Chrono Trigger, one of the most beloved games of all time. While it does fall slightly short of it's predecessor's greatness, it remains one of the PSX's finest game and a more than worthy sequel.

Wild Arms - PlayStation
As one of the very first RPGs to be released on the PSX.
I can't help but think that if it had been released after FFVII then it would have been beloved by more.

The Playstation (PSX) was home to some of the finest console RPGs ever released, and almost single-handedly ushered in a golden age for the genre. For the first time in the west, the console RPG had become not only accepted but loved, the hysterical affection shown to Square's breakthrough Final Fantasy VII finally persuaded Japan's top developers that the west was a viable place for their glorious wares to peddled, and the translations started to come thick and fast.
It's fair to say that without the PSX, many of these wondrous gems would never have known life outside of Japan in an official capacity, and the gaming world would be a poorer place for it.
