Reasons for Prediction: With Sam Mendes directing and Roger Deakins behind the camera, this is sure to be prestige material. WWI has been hot with the academy in the last few years. Thomas Newman is no stranger to award-winning movies.

Reasons for Prediction: The beloved Tom Hanks is playing a real person who is beloved. Matthew Rhys is getting into the award-winning mix. Marielle Heller is an up-and-coming female director the Academy may actual like enough to nominate for director and picture... maybe.
Results:
NOT Nominated for Best Picture
ZERO Wins
ONE Nomination:
Supporting Actor (Tom Hanks)
Reasons for Prediction: All star cast lead by Eddie Murphy, who seems like he is in a great spot to get some Academy love. It's wild enough of a premise to get attention. There is buzz it is an entertaining movie. Netflix has been pushing hard for awards love the last few years and has found success. This seems like the least likely out of my picks, but I love it as a dark horse.

Donald Sylvester
ONE Additional Nomination:
Sound Mixing (Paul Massey, David Giammarco, Steven Morrow)
Reasons for Prediction: Scorsese back in the gangster genre with his old go-to stars De Niro, Keitel, Pesci, and newcomer... to Scorsese, Pacino. It's a true American tale of epic size and it said to be about much more than just gangsters. Once again, Netflix is pushing for awards and put A LOT of money into this one; so they'll be campaigning... if it's really good. Of course it is, it's Scorsese!

Reasons for Prediction: Michael B Jordan is primed for an Oscar nod, Foxx is loved by the Academy. It's the kind of true story they love, too. I'm not sure about the director, Destin Cretton, or some other crew choices; so this one isn't a sure thing.

Reasons for Prediction: There was instant buzz for this oft-remade story when Gerwig became slated to direct. It doesn't seem to have died down. The very likable and award-loving cast will help keep this prestige enough. But, I think Gerwig has to make this different and fresh enough to garner the nomination.
Results:
Nominated for Best Picture
ONE Win
Jacqueline Durran
FOUR Additional Nominations:
Lead Actress (Saoirse Ronan)
Supporting Actress (Florence Pugh)
Adapted Screenplay (Greta Gerwig)
Score (Alexandre Desplat)
Reasons for Prediction: It's a Tarantino movie about Hollywood, it's a shoe-in. The mostly positive response from critics, fans, and solid box office will all help keep the nomination hopes alive. I have strong doubts it can win, though.
Results:

Brad Pitt

Reasons for Prediction: The Safdie Brothers have a wild imagination and could possible change the game even more with Sandler in the lead. I don't know yet, but I'm assuming it will be a mostly serious role for him, which helps its chances greatly.
