I put the films I consider the best first and the worst last in each section. My parameters are production value, uniqueness, cinematography, actors performance, story and noncensorship. I mean, the thing that defines gay is being attracted to same sex, and the visual representation of that is kiss/sex, so if a movie doesn't show that, then it isn't showing gay people, but telling us they're gay. And since cinema is audiovisual, that's both a waste of opportunity and goes against the storytelling mantra show-don't-tell. I also tend to dislike movies were none of the two in the pair are pretty to me, I know that's shallow, but whatever. And I don't mean just having a fit body, most movies have characters that have a fit body but don't act well and/or have an ugly face and/or worse, are uninteresting-looking. Oh, and my dislike for comedies may rear its fugly head here. Probably not every movie here is a romance movie, but I'm judging them based mainly on the romance.

Good Ending
Gone, But Not Forgotten (2003)
I loved this movie. I found the plot to be interesting, the characters don't turn gay unexpectedly, there are reasons for the events. I loved the sex scene and the ending was a good one too.

God's Own Country (2017)
It goes to great lengths for authenticity. It also is one of the many gay films that seem to be trying to use as little dialogue as possible, for some reason. But it is good, authentic and nice, it's like a less-epic, happy-ended Brokeback Mountain. IMO it's an instant classic.

Love, Simon (2018)
It's pure cliché and I love it! This movie made me feel something I think I was missing, what I suppose straight people feel when they're watching their favorite romantic comedy movies. It felt unique, different than every other movie I have seen, because it uses the tried and true formula that all straight romances use and it's so common because it works, it works really well. It's shallow and kinda predictable, but very well realized and it feels epic.

North Sea Texas (2011)
It's one of the genre's classics. The ending could be better, though.
Paulo Júnior's rating:

The evolution of the relationship between the boys is really well-done.
Paulo Júnior's rating:

This is a very well made film, and also pretty unique. The ending, even if happy, is not what you'd expect. Also, the romance isn't the only thing happening in the movie, it's a family drama, but the gay guy is the main character and his romance is pretty important.
Paulo Júnior's rating:

Role/Play (2010)
The two main actors in the film are a couple in real life too. Matthew Montgomery, one of the two, plays roles in a bunch of other gay-themed films too.
The film was directed by Rob Williams, that directs many gay-themed films.
Paulo Júnior's rating:

Capital Games (2013)
This was a great romance, but not that good of a movie. The plot starts unique, but midpoint it has delved 100% into the usual gay romance movie formula. It's sweet, though. Another problem I should mention is that the soundtrack sometimes is too intrusive.
Paulo Júnior's rating:

Being 17 (2016)
I liked it, but it ends without solving all the conflicts, so the ending could be better.
Paulo Júnior's rating:

Before the Fall (2016)
A reimagining of Pride and Prejudice, this is good and there is some pretty scenery to be seen. Although the straight romance subplot kisses are longer than the gay kiss, and that I can't forgive.
Paulo Júnior's rating:

Like It Is (1998)
This movie has its good moments. Although it's aimless at places and the ending is too abrupt. But the acting, the characters and the little plot it has are good.
Paulo Júnior's rating:

From Beginning to End (2009)
Weird but hot brazilian flick were incest is pretty natural.
With the very hot brazilian actor Rafael Cardoso.
Plan B (2010)
This is a Marco Berger movie, so it feels very slow. But the slow also feels deliberate and not too detrimental to the enjoyment. When I read the synopsis, I expected the movie to play that straightforward and it was a disappointment that that's not the case and the main plot is basically lost.
Hot Guys with Guns (2013)
It's entertaining, even though it's unfocused, with an uneven tone. SPOILER And what was the evil guys plans? To steal the guys who raped them and then in the end kill only a random guy not involved with it all?!
P.S.: I wish this had sequels and thus had become a franchise.
Paulo Júnior's rating:

It's very slow at first, but then it picks up the pace. It's a well-told story, the closest we gays got of a Pretty Woman (only darker, as gay movies usually are). I'd also like to point out there's no kiss scene, only sex scenes. And the ending got me wondering if it was actually a romance or if it was all supposed to be a story about paternity and adoption in the end, which is a really odd feeling.
