This is my favourite studio ghibli and animated movie for many many reason.

The first time I saw this movie was probably back in like 2003. My brother and I were visiting my grandparents up north for a week in the summer.

We went to this Blockbuster, back when they still existed and we were both told we could pick a movie that we wanted to watch while we were staying there.

I don't even remember which movie I picked at the time but this is the one my brother picked. He said that I probably wouldn't like it very much but I could still watch it with him if I wanted to.

At the time I had no idea what anime really was. I mean I watched Pokemon and stuff on TV but I never really knew any background about it. I just liked the colours and sound effects. I had no idea that these shows were even made in different countries.

Anyways we sit down and watch it and eight year old me was so fascinated with it despite how dark and full of blood it was.

Years go by before I would even know what studio ghibli was and little did I know this movie would be the starting point for wanting to work on animated films myself.

I don't think Pixar has ever made a bad movie. At least I cannot think of one off the top of my head that I absolutely hated or generally disliked.

I think their unique ideas are what make them stand out from the rest of the north american animation studios such as Disney and Dreamworks. All of their films are so inspirational and eye catching for their time. Ending up being block buster hits. Every time.

Probably because the animators at Pixar say they take a lot of their inspiration from Studio Ghibli movies. In fact John Lassester (the chief creative officer of Pixar) is good friends with Hayao Miyazaki which he has said in many interviews.

This is my favourite Pixar movie from my childhood. I feel like this movie is what subconsciously effected my art style the most.

This is one of those movies that I really appreciate but I feel that not everyone would be able to relate to unless you are an inspiring artist or writer.

This movie is a "follow your dreams even if it's a hard road" kind of film.

There is a lot of symbolism in this film. Part of that is shown through "gems" inside rocks. The gems meaning your passions and how to get good at what you want to do in life.

The romance in the movie is symbolic to what a healthy relationship should be. They are both inspiring artists, both on different paths. Yet wanting to help each other in ways they find difficult and confusing.

There is one scene that stood out to me the most in this film and that was when the main character, Shizuku got off the bike that Seiji (The love interest) was trying to bike up to a look out near the end of the film. It was too hard for him to bike them both up the hill himself so Shizuku helped push the bike up the hill.

It's a very symbolic scene of how two people need to put equal amounts of effort into a relationship for it to work.

This is my favourite Studio Ghibli movie that Hayao Miyazaki did not direct.
I don't know if this is my faovurite Disney movie but it's definitely up there for sure.

Just because the fact that it's so ridiculous and funny. The characters are so wacky and silly.

Puts me in a good mood.

Reminds me of certain friends from my past that I have fond memories with.

All together a good experience.

The Lion King (1994)
I really liked this Disney movie as a kid but didn't really appreciate it fully until I was older and realized a lot about the movie and what the animators used for inspiration.

For example the entire plot is loosely basically based off Hamlet.

There is one scene where the hyenas are marching, which is directly animated from the Hitler march in WWII. Where Scar is standing on a giant rock. They literally made Scar, Hitler.

How fucked up is that.
I have watched this movie so many times since my childhood I can probably recite the entire film without even watching it.

That being said I don't want to watch it again for many many years. I don't even want to look at the cover I am so sick of it. I have overdosed on this movie.

It is however on this list because it's one of those films that holds a special place in my heart. I still have the original VHS tape somewhere in my closet and I will cherish it until the end of my days.

It reminds me of when my brother and I ripped the sountrack off the internet one year and put it on a CD before ipods were even a thing. We drew all these weird designs and scribbles onto it. It looked like we could sell it at some weird black art market.

Not to mention stop motion animation is very tricky to film. If you make a single mistake in a scene you have to start the entire scene over again.

I can't even imagine filming an entire feature length movie like that.

I think I first watched this movie in 2010, back in highschool.

I really want to read the book and compare the differences.

Probably one of the most unique animated movies I've seen. I watched this one too many times.

Doors to other dimensions, anti war... all that good stuff.

Stir it up in a pot. Add some character spice. Wow look at that you got a great movie!

I am still working on this list lmao
