Ryan Adams brought to me the attention of this fairly unknown artist. I don't really care for most of her work, but "Reputation" was a huge work of pop art.
Wilco never disappoints and at no point were they disappointing in this poignant album at the point in their career where they were earning points with everyone.
I had this album on non stop in the year of its release. There was Nimrod and then everything else.
It's tough to pick one Kinks album that stands out among the rest. But here it is, in full preservation.
Van Mo brings us the dreamy, sophisticated musings of a beautiful soul and endless wanderer.
I barely know a lick of French; but that doesn't matter. This is musical heaven.
And a sea change it was. Then again, Beck has had multiple sea changes. He is my favorite singular music artist.
And there would be many more. The guy never eased to amaze me with his lyricism and non-traditional voice. This is his most representative album.
My Morning Jacket seems to best the band out there that gets the least amount of airplay. The vocals, the music, the lyrics are all incredible. This band needs to be heard.
The Band is THE Band. One of the greatest touring bands and such an impressive group of multi-talented musicians.
Dave Matthews Band is a great band but his solo venture here struck me where the other ones had not. Right in the heart and gut over and over. It's a sneaky masterpiece.
69 love songs and 58 of them are damn good. All on one album. It's never been done! Nailed it!
My Morning Jacket's best album. I don't think it's a stretch to say I've listened to it over 50 times.
Several Black Keys albums were considered (Brothers, so close!) for this list but this one is my absolute favorite of one of my favorite active rock bands.
Arguably the best and most influential rock band. True rock. Love the beatles, but these guys were at another level of rock.
This is their best work and for some reason rarely considered so.

Beatles. Fuck it. I couldn't help but at least one of their albums on here. The White Album and Sgt Peppers are incredible but this one's structure is unmatched and it's witty, trippy, hippy, snappy, and downright incredible.
The inventors of concept (maybe) and if not, then they are the best. Pink Floyd at their most experimental.
It may not be a unique selection for number one. But it is THE selection and THE album. Nothing has gripped me so much and shown such indelibility.
