The art of Frank Brangwyn
Sir Frank Brangwyn (1867โ1956), born in Belgium of Anglo-Welsh parentage, was a prolific all-round artist: painter, muralist, virtuoso engraver and illustrator, progressive designer and photographer. His high reputation in the early 20th century, based on his technical mastery, colour and grand bravura, was undermined by changing tastes and attitudes, along with the rise of modern art: Empire, rich exoticism and his style of accomplished draughtsmanship were no longer in fashion. But given the strikingly powerful, even majestic quality of his work, recent renewal of interest seems long overdue.
