David Copperfield (1935)
Director: Elia Kazan
His 17th Movie.
My 11th movie watched from the director.
Kazan's earlier film, even if already his 17th, shows good directing control and ability to make a long, wordy book, into a digestible movie. The characters come to life effectively and the production as a whole is impressive for its time.
Only issue I had was with strange or awkward editing decisions; but I know with the form and cost that was more of a common issue in the 30s.
Stehako's rating:
Errol Flynn is great in this sweeping epic of a man on a mission of revenge, fortune and love. The lovely Olivia de Havilland is also great.
Curtis shows early on his abilities as a director, and will end up being one of the greats of the era.
