2010 Top
Top what? I decided to list all the 9 and 10 star rated movies (based on my own ratings) of each year instead of trying to make a list of exactly 10. Some years may have 1 and some may have 20 in the list. It depends on the amount of good movies I saw from that year - but even more it hopefully reflects the amount of decent movies that were actually made in a particular year.
I have included a small explanation for people who may not have heard of the film.
Lists will constantly change as I see more films.

Winter's Bone (2010)
A perfectly acted portrait of a strange little world in the American back country.

Exit Through the Gift Shop (2010)
If this is real, wow. If it is an elaborate hoax... well... wow again!
Film Ninja's rating:

This is how the "found footage" style should be done. Many films use the trick for no apparent reason, and most of them would actually be more interesting with traditional camera angles. Troll Hunter is made in the style because it just wouldn't be as cool any other way!
Film Ninja's rating:

Hmmmm. I may never figure out what the heck is going on in this film, but I can't deny it's intriguing.
Film Ninja's rating:

Black Swan (2010)
The story of a brilliant, albeit insane, ballet dancer. Instead of witnessing her mental breakdown from the outside, Aranofsky forces us into Nina's fractured, paranoid point of view, with unannounced hallucinations and all! The scariest parts were the moments I could relate to her.
Film Ninja's rating:

I Saw the Devil (2010)
In New Korean Cinema, this is one of the most horrific, and yet artistic films to come out so far. Obviously, if you know anything about Korean films, that is saying a lot! Crazy serial killer(s) vs just as crazy vengeful cop. Nuff said.
Film Ninja's rating:

Inception (2010)
Since the medium of film is closer to dreams than to reality, it is actually irrelevant whether the characters are in a dream, or awake. The confusion surrounding this film is unnecessary. Re-watching this caused me to lower the score because there is a bit too much time spent on explaining everything. This decreases the enjoyment.
Film Ninja's rating:

Seeing these painstakingly documented 3D images of the world's oldest art work (at the time this film was made) is quite a journey! I found myself speculating about the unimaginable thoughts and lifestyles these cavemen had, way back when they created these drawings. Then again are we modern humans so different who made this film for much the same reasons?
Film Ninja's rating:

Confessions (2010)
A teacher's search for answers about her little child's drowning evolves into an epic quest for vengeance. The film is stylish and strange, but always captivating.
Film Ninja's rating:

Machete (2010)
I don't think anybody can turn a bad situation around in his favor quite like Machete can. Even James Bond has the advantages of gadgets, money and good looks. Machete is an inspiration to anybody who believes that attaching a Gatling gun to a motorcycle can be the solution to all of life's problems.
Film Ninja's rating:

The main character in this Japanese thriller is framed for murdering the Prime Minister - and so the quest to prove his innocence begins! As you can imagine from that plot, this is as close to a Hitchcock film as you'll ever find.
Film Ninja's rating:

Some memorable characters and an epic final battle make this a solid action movie.
Film Ninja's rating:

Stake Land (2011)
So you think you're ready for that Zombie outbreak? Well what if the zombies are vampires? This movie takes parts of Zombieland and The Road, and creates a mixture that surpasses them both.
Film Ninja's rating:

Super (2011)
What would happen if someone decided to be a superhero in the real world? Exactly what happens in this movie. The reality is horrible and ugly, which is why this is the definitive superhero movie.
Film Ninja's rating:

Viva Riva! (2010)
This gangster movie takes place in a city where Scarface and Tony Soprano wouldn't even survive for a day, Kinshasa. Needless to say, the story is gritty and violent, while the forbidden locations are an exotic treat to visit, even through film.
Film Ninja's rating:

Even more interesting than Vincent Chase's profile of this teen photo stalker, is the examination of what makes the public even WANT all the photos and gossip. This film searches far deeper than I ever thought it would.
Film Ninja's rating:

Hop the Twig (2010)
This short is a spectacular little interpretation of a child's obsession with death.
Film Ninja's rating:

The Social Network (2010)
Some nerds make a website and become millionaires! David Fincher somehow turned that lame plot into one of the more interesting films of the year.
