The album's first single, "The Bucket", was the band's first singles chart appearance in the United States, peaking at number 23 on the Alternative Songs chart.

In 2007, their third album Because of the Times was released, peaking at number one on the Irish, New Zealand and UK albums charts. The singles "On Call" and "Fans" both featured in the top 30 of each of the singles charts of those countries. Because of the Times was certified two times platinum in Australia, three times platinum in Ireland and platinum in the UK.

The band's greatest success to date came with the release of their fourth album, Only by the Night (2008), along with the singles "Sex on Fire" and "Use Somebody". Only by the Night peaked at number one on the Australian, Irish, New Zealand and UK albums charts, also peaking at number five on the Billboard 200. It was certified eight times platinum in Australia, four times platinum in New Zealand, six times platinum in the UK, platinum in the US and was eventually announced to be the twenty-first best selling album worldwide in 2008, according to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry. "Sex on Fire" peaked at number one on the Alternative Songs chart, as well as the Australian, Finnish, Irish and UK singles charts and sold large numbers of copies in the UK, Australia and New Zealand. The second single, "Use Somebody", entered the top ten on the Billboard 100, and peaked at number one on the Alternative Songs chart. It also peaked in the top 10 on the Australian, Belgian, Irish, New Zealand and UK singles charts. The third single "Notion" has also peaked at number one on the Alternative Songs chart. As of Feb. 2010, Only By the Night has sold almost 6.5 million copies worldwide. Their long awaited follow-up album, Come Around Sundown, was released on the 15th of September, 2010.
Come Around Sundown is the fifth studio album by American rock band Kings of Leon, released in the Republic of Ireland, Australia and Germany on October 15, 2010, followed by releases in the UK on October 18 and North America on October 19. The official album covers and tracklist were revealed on 3 September. The lead single, "Radioactive", along with its accompanying music video, premiered on 8 September on the Kings' official website.
