Awesome fighting game

Posted : 1 year, 8 months ago on 19 August 2022 03:28

Everyone's favorite N64 characters battle it out where anything goes. The game features the best of Nintendo: Mario, Luigi, Link, Yoshi, Fox McCloud, Pikachu and Captain Falcon. They even bring back the old favorites: Samus and Kirby. They sneak in Jigglypuff as well. It's fun to play as the Nintendo characters in a fighting game, rather than the Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat characters. It's refreshing. This is a great game.

Super Smash Bros. Review - ENGLISH AND SPANISH

REVIEW IN ENGLISH/SPANISH

ENGLISH:

Smash 64's 1P mode is pretty mediocre, taking in mind that every single character will always have the same rivals and stages (the bonus stages are the only thing that changes between characters). Items are set by default and you cannot get rid of them, hurting the 1P experience even more with a luck factor that only really makes sense in the VS mode (at the end of the day, how fun is to unfairly beat or get beaten by an AI due to a dumb item that can almost instantly kill you? The point of the items is to make other people rage, not to pound an AI character to the sky with a hammer). VS mode requires 100 matches to disable items, which is too much, but at least you can decide with your rival to not use the items and play honorably.
Smash 64's characters have a moderate debalance (just like almost any other fighting game to be honest): High tier characters have VERY good recoveries (the move that serves as a third jump and allows them to get back to the stage) while low tiers have mediocre or outright terrible recoveries, to the point that more than half of the time they're thrown off the stage, they won't be able to get back, which is pretty infuriating, but due to the fact that the roster is pretty small and all characters have 1 or 2 defining traits/moves that make them unique and viable, it doesn't get stale and most of the characters can be viable anyway. (for example: while Link may have a pretty bad recovery and a LOT of ending lag, he has a lot of projectile abilities and his attacks are longer and have more hit frames due to him using a sword as a main mean of attack).
Hit-Stun is quite the defining factor of this game: it lasts ages, making the game very combo-oriented. I don't hate combo-oriented fighting games, but in this kind of game, where there's no hit points and dying is much easier, I think it's too much to be considered reasonable.
Smash 64 is not a perfect game by any means, but for being the first Smash, if you ignore 1P mode and play with your friends in VS (yeah, i know, a lot of shitty games can be fun if you play them with friends, but Smash 64 is specifically designed to be played with them), it holds up pretty well.

One of the best 4-player games on the N64! Items are balanced, every character's fun to play, the stages are all awesome, and it's got tons of reasons to go back and play.

FALCOHHN PUNCH!

Posted : 13 years, 7 months ago on 18 September 2010 06:38

My 2nd favorite game. Just spectacular. I enjoy this more than the WI and Game cube because, for instance, you hit someone at the same time and you have the more powerful move you PREVAIL. This doesn't occur in the dumb new games. Plus it's too fast. I enjoy the slow awesomeness of the original.

Favorite Character: Captain Falcon-quick, powerful, beastly and B.A.
Level: Fox' Ship-Gigantic level, lasers and it's in fricken' space.

Best Game For N64

Posted : 15 years, 6 months ago on 9 October 2008 02:18

This is one of the best games for N64 but is the top best game. Nintendo did a very good job in making a game that includes characters from all their games to fight each other. The graphics kinda suck but the Gameplay is awesome. Storyline kinda doesn't make sense it's basically toys(which are the nintendo characters) come to life and fight, with the Master Hand as the leader and boss but somehow one character in the end gets strong enough to beat him. I love the multiplayer fighting to see who is best in surviving or killing. They could have put more/different characters in it would have been better.
