Ok I'm gonna start with the least consequential cliché to ease into some of the bigger ones affecting entire runtimes.
And while it may be inconsequential, god I hate this:
The Wilhelm Scream
It's the quote-unquote hilarious library sound effect / quote-unquote cute inside joke someone thought would be fun to run to the ground.
Some people probably do find it hilarious time and again, but to me it's just a sign that someone in charge doesn't pay enough for their sound designers. Autopilot craft, I say.
It's especially infuriating when you hear the original Star Wars, the goddamn textbook example of instantly recognizable sound design that inspired a generation of filmmakers to put more effort into cinematic soundscapes, resort to stock sound effects.
