It's lodgers versus landlord in this brilliantly written, brilliantly acted British comedy classic. Leonard Rossiter (The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin) stars as miserly, mean-spirited Rupert Rigsby, the prying, preening landlord of a seedy boarding house. Rigsby engages in an ongoing—and losing—battle of wits with university students and regular tenants Alan (Richard Beckinsale) and Philip (Don Warrington). In Series 3, new tenants include a flamboyant actor (Peter Bowles) and an exotic dancer, who test Rigsby's narrow mind and lecherous instincts. Early on, lovelorn Ruth (Frances de la Tour) returns to the house after a failed engagement, delighting Rigsby and cranking up the hilarity with his clumsy courting attempts and her refined rebuffs.
