Have you ever said to yourself, "Gee, I like the overwrought soap opera of Melrose Place--if only it had explicit gay sex and supernatural storylines..."? Dante's Cove is for you! Come to this semi-tropical paradise and watch with glee as warlock Ambrosius (William Gregory Lee, formerly Virgil on Xena: Warrior Princess) uses his dark magic to pursue the hunky blond Kevin (Gregory Michael, As the World Turns) while fighting with Grace (Tracy Scoggins, The Colbys, Babylon 5), the powerful witch to whom Ambrosius was engaged...until she caught him in flagrante with a man. Meanwhile, Kevin's lover Toby (Charlie David, host of Crash Test Mommy) struggles to protect Kevin with the help of Van (Nadine Heimann), a newly-minted witch whose dabbling in magic threatens to wreck her relationship with magic-phobe Iowa girl Michelle (Erin Cummings, After Midnight: Life Behind Bars). And what are the schemes of Diana (Thea Gill, The L-Word), the mysterious woman who runs the historical society? Punctuating all of this angst and glowering are copious man-on-man sex scenes with a wee bit of woman-on-woman thrown in to round things out. The special effects are cheap, the dialogue obvious yet confusing, the plot lurches around like a drunk with his foot in a bucket, and the acting...well, let's just say the cast is very pretty to look at. The five episodes of Dante's Cove - the Complete Second Season follow a two-episode first season (more of a pilot, really); the story threads, such as they are, will make just as much sense whether you've seen Season One or not. There are several behind-the-scenes extra features on the dvd; most are the usual "I'm so happy to be on this great show!" stuff, but the most interesting one interviews several cast members about being openly gay actors. --Bret Fetzer
