Jack Arnold was an American actor and film and television director, best known as one of the leading filmmakers of 1950s science fiction films. His most notable films are "It Came from Outer Space" (1953), "Creature from the Black Lagoon" (1954), "Tarantula" (1955) and "The Incredible Shrinking Man" (1957). During World War II, Arnold served in the United States Army Signal Corps, where he took a crash course in cinematography and worked as a cameraman assisting filmmaker Robert Flaherty on various military films. After eight months with Flaherty, Arnold became a pilot in the Air Corps.
