Delenes mother Betty Alexander Sutch, whilst serving in ENSA (Entertainments National Service Agency) and entertaining the troops in Cairo, met Jan Momberg, a handsome, South African serviceman who was serving there. In November 1945 Betty and Jan were married in Chiswick (where she grew up) and then moved to South Africa. Delene was born in December 1946 in Port Elizabeth her brother Hennie was born in September 1948 in Johannesburg.
