Shinnosuke Tomari (泊 進ノ介, Tomari Shinnosuke) is the main protagonist of Kamen Rider Drive. He is a police officer who transforms into Kamen Rider Drive (仮面ライダードライブ, Kamen Raidā Doraibu).
Shinnosuke Tomari was born on December 24, 1990, to his father Eisuke Tomari. He never enjoyed celebrating his birthday so close to Christmas, as he received one present for such occasion. Shinnosuke's father was a police officer who taught his son the hardships of being one. He was later suspiciously murdered in the line of duty while Shinnosuke was in middle school. This motivated Shinnosuke to pursue a career in law enforcement and crack the case of his father's death.
On April 8, 2014, Shinnosuke and his partner, Akira Hayase, were tracking down the notorious crime group, Neo Shade. Although they initially found a false lead from Koya Nishihori, the detectives received reports of Neo Shade's next location. At night, the detectives cornered the criminals and after seeing Akira in danger, Shinnosuke pulled out his gun to shoot an attacking criminal. However, as Global Freeze occurred, Shinnosuke accidentally fired at a flammable generator behind Hayase. As the entire scene kept slowing down for him, Hayase was crushed by the falling pipes.
