A high fantasy sword and sorcery heroine. Originally created as Red Sonya of Rogatino in Robert E. Howard's 1934 short story "The Shadow of the Vulture".

Marvel comic book artist Barry Windsor-Smith "re-imagined" her as Red Sonja, the She-Devil with a Sword wearing a chainmail bikini in 1973.

Known as the "She-Devil With A Sword," Red Sonja was given the divine gift of supreme fighting skill in exchange for her vow of never loving any man who could not defeat her in fair combat. She has become the archetypal example of the strikingly beautiful warrior woman clad in revealing bikini-like armor.

Dynamite Entertainment, after buying the rights to the character, decided to bring back Sonja’s classic bikini armor for her new series, which debuted in 2005 and featured the art of Mel Rubi, who has since put his own stamp on the character just as Frank Thorne did in the 1970’s. The series was an immediate hit, becoming Dynamite’s best-selling title and firmly returning the character to mainstream popularity.
