Will's dad is mentioned throughout the series but he does not appear until the movie, in which he announces he has just got married to a woman who is, according to Will, only four years older than Will, making her 22. Unlike Will's mum, who pampers Will, Will's dad shows absolutely no interest in his son, disappointed that he would turn out so socially inept. Despite this, Will wants his dad's admiration but doesn't quite know how to get it. In that regard, Will's relationship with his dad is a lot like his relationship with Mr. Gilbert.
