This novel is much more than just a historical story, it's like the Name of the Rose and the filmography of Andrei Tarkovsky combined into one with some Dostojevsky and Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring by Kim Ki-duk. It has everything: a murder mystery, allegorical storytelling, lots of symbolism, Islamic mysticism, philosophy, romance... My Name is Red is simply the best book I have ever read in my life."

The story begins when one of the painters murders another and throws his body into a dried well. One of the deepest novels I have ever read. It's like a mix of Dostoyevsky and some spiritual eastern film like Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... "
