A classic

When I was a kid, like anyone selse, I loved all the basic stuff. You know, Bruce Lee, Clint Eastwood, James Bond, Star Wars, Indiana Jones,... However, somehow, I never really felt much connection with this flick though. I mean, I thought it was pretty neat, that's for sure, but I never thought it was really so mind-blowing and, I guess, it probably had to do with the story. Basically, you have this kid who finds a time-travelling super car and, instead of discovering the future and some fantastic world, he actually goes back to the 50's in the USA. I don't know, maybe it was pretty neat for all the American kids watching this flick, but I didn't care much about the time period they picked up. Sure, it was decent enough but when I think about time-travelling, my first thought wouldn't be 'Wow, I would really love to go 30 years back in time and see my parents when they were my age'. Still, I have to admit it, it remains a really fun movie, Marty McFly and Doc Brown were both incredibly entertaining and the DeLorean must be the coolest time-machine ever created. To conclude, even though I'm not a huge fan, it remains a classic and a must-see for any decent movie buff.

I think you should go back and watch this again, while the story isn't that special, the movie is still a lot of fun. Also, just to clarify, he traveled back in time by accident. The intention was for Doc to travel into the future, but when showing Marty the time machine he left the coordinates for when he bumped his head and first discovered time travel, Nov 5, 1955. After Doc gets shot by the Libyans, Marty hastily takes off in the time machine without changing the coordinates.

@djprojexion, I have seen this movie at least 3 times and the last time was just last year so I don't feel the need to re-watch it again any time soon.

The fact that McFly flies back to the 50's might seem that it was by accident but that was actually an illusion The goal of Zemeckis was never to have the characters to go to the future but his goal was always to have him go back to the 50's because he thought it would be really neat (like most of the viewers seem to think). Well, I think it would have been nicer to go to the future instead. Hell, even in the 2nd installment, they spent only 20 minutes in the future, choosing to focus instead on some parallel version of the present time which was also rather disappointing.

Ok, from reading your review it seemed like you hadn't seen it in a long time and forgot what really went down. Thanks for clarifying.
